If so, need some help with setup.
Cheers.

Who are you using SIP with?

I have iptel.org SIP address and today i got a 2talk.co.nz SIP number. They both work fine on my HTC Magic.

On HTC Magic, in SIPDroid, do Menu -> Settings.

in Settings, go into "SIP account settings".....

You put *just* your user name into the username (eg: "bob.smith" or "02825504954")
You put *just* your password into Password.
You put the domain name of the server into the server (iptel.org or 2talk.co.nz or some other)

That;'s it for part one.

Part Two: In "Call Options", you have to enable Wifi, 3G and Edge....or it will default to wifi ONLY...and your router/ firewall may make that impossible. It should just work, but if it doesn't you may have to open the relevant port. I do NOT change the port setting in SIPDroid. I leave it at the default.

That should be all you need.

My SIP details are "02825504954@2talk.co.nz" for SIPDroid, or you can use a mobile or land line to call me at 028-25504954.....and pay Telecom (for exmaple) the 71 cents / minute for the privilege of calling a mobile number. :-)

If I'm in bed, my phone is off.

If that doesn't work, who is your SIP provider and what are you trying to do?

I am using Sipdroid on a Hero, 2talk is the provider.
I only have Wifi enabled as I wanted to use it at home over the broadband connection rather than my mobile data plan. Other than that, my settings are the same as you.
Here is the problem.
When I place a call there is no ringtone, just silence until the person answers. That is acceptable but when someone calls me, my Hero does not ring and so the call eventually goes to voicemail and of course that is pretty useless.
Now here is the odd thing, I placed a call to a Chch number a few nights ago and got a ring tone! Only time that has ever happened.
Also, I initially tried Sipdroid with a provider called Orcacom and it worked perfectly but when I got back to them wanting to procedd to set up an account, geographic number etc, they ignored all emails, calls etc so may not be in business any more.
So, any suggestions on what I can do to get the phone to ring so I can answer it?
Cheers.

Further strangeness. Came across SipAgent and gave that a go. Hey presto! I now get a ring tone on outbound calls but incoming calls get a busy tone :-(

Now solved, SipAgent working pretty much as needed, just two issues to sort, only get one ring notification on incoming calls and battery life is taking a hit but love those cheap calls :-)

I tried out Sipdroid on my Google N1 using sipgate and had partial success. I can make calls (using wifi) to their test number and echo number but when I try a regular number, it dials out and then nothing.

I have been using Slipdroid on my Hero with 2talk.co.nz with some sucess, only issues are that i dont hear the phone ringing when I make a call and my phone doesnt ring for incoming calls.
Sipagent I have had some better sucess with, I get a ring tone for outgoing calls but only one ring on incoming. The latest version has run into a problem with registering and the author is working on a new version, should be out soon.
Call quality using Sipdroid is very good, Sipagent is a little echo-y.

For those who are experiencing issues with incoming calls, are you using 3G or WiFi?

If you're using 3G it pays to use an APN that allows uninitiated inbound traffic such as 'internet' on Vodafone.

If you're using WiFi some routers/firewalls will have issues with inbound SIP traffic if you don't have port 5060 (or whatever SIP prot your provider uses) forwarded to your device.

I just use wifi. Is port forwarding something you have to set up on your router?

My problem is, I can hear the test number and the echo number but it appears I can't send voice out. I guess I couild set port forwarding on my router to forward 5060 to my phone but it means I need to make sure the phone is getting fixed IP from the router.

Sipgate is a US SIP provider so I am just calling US numbers (which are free) to test. For example I was able to make a call to 800-555-1212 (toll free directories) but the voice attendant could not hear me say the company I was asking about.
