I bought the Acer Liquid A1 with Android 1.6 yesterday, and the woman told me I get a free upgrade to Android 2. How ever I don't see this anywhere online?

I've read articles saying it will be released in March but it's way past that now.

What is the official release date of the upgrade? Where can I get it?  I would like to upgrade my android to version 2.

You can check the Acer web sites. I see www.acer.co.nz now list an Eclair / Android v2.1 update, but have not yet listed a file under to be downloaded.

Where did you get your phone and where they get it from? If it is parallel imported, you can go to the Acer web site in that country and see if there is an update.

Basically......you can flash pretty much any regional image on the phone. I've used UK, EU and AP images. The best were UK and EU. There have been numerous Android v2.1 leaks.

The phone is easy to root. It's also easy to UN-root it.....You just flash a stock ROM on the phone using a download tool and it's back to being a stock phone.

I used to use Liquid Community ROM v1.4. It had 100% market access and supported Apps2SD....and the Liquid NEEDS Apps2sd as it has fairly limited internal app storage.  It was based on an Eclair leak from Acer. They seem to leak like a sieve where beta ROMs are concerned.

If you have any questions, let me know...and I'll see if I know the answers. I sold my Liquid a month ago after I bought a Nexus One.....but the Acer Liquid has to be one of the best Android phones around at that price point.

Would upgrading it from a leaked source void my warranty?

Depends.

If the phone has a problem, but can still be flashed back to stock.....No...because they have no way of knowing it was ever rooted.

But if you loaded a rooted ROM and the USB port died or some other part failed that prevented you from restoring the stock system, then you may be stuck.

I've never seen that happen, but it probably has to someone.....somewhere.
