I imported one myself from their online store a month ago, now a friend wants one after seeing how cool they are.

Problem is the Vodafone ones are quite naturally not the AT&T version.

So, is there another "preferred" way to get your hands on a Nexus One, for XT? He's pretty keen on the N1 over the HTC Desire...

Any thoughts / comments / suggestions appreciated :)

Thanks

Chill.

Apparently developers can still buy them. A developer membership costs US$25 and I don't have one, and it's not possible to view the information about "dev phones" until that fee has been paid. Presumably you'd still need to use a US forwarding service, but it's possible that Google will sell to international developers directly. It might be worth doing some research, but so far I've only been able to find a very limited amount of information.

As per Google:

To ensure our developers have access to a phone with the latest Android OS, Google will be offering the Nexus One through a partner for sale to registered developers. Visit the Android Market Publisher site and log into your developer account to purchase a Nexus One.

I have an update on this (via http://phandroid.com/2010/08/05/nexus-one-now-officially-the-dev-phone-offered-in-market-dashboard-f.../). Google is currently only selling the 900 MHz version to developers, and is still only selling to limited countries :(

Damn that's a shame...

Any other ideas about alternatives? I notice that Telstra Aus are doing the Desire, but not the N1.

Any other international telcos that you can buy it from direct, for 850Mhz (XT) unlocked, no contract? :D

Unfortunately I don't have any other suggestions. Hopefully someone else has some ideas.

I've googled around and the Nexus One's appear to be out of stock *everywhere* because HTC can't get AMOLED screens from Samsung to make them. The Desires now all have Super LCD.

This may explain why Google got out of the online store business with it's only product being....the Nexus One. They would have seen this coming....and chose to ration the phones for developers.

If you can get one on TradeMe or eBay....or Parallel Imports.....do that.

You could try Rogers in Canada.  They do 850/2100

I checked this out last night as I had the same thought.

Rogers made it very clear on their web site they would not be selling the Nexus One directly and people wanting to buy it would have to buy from Google directly...and come into a Rogers shop front to get it "activated".

Might be able to get one second-hand from a Canadian or American owner #hens-teeth

If HTC can't get the AMOLED screens to assemble them and Vodafone globally will be a channel for hwat they have.....and VF don't do 850MHz.....then there may not actually be any.

It's a shame the "AT&T"/TNZ-XT flavour wasn't on the market for more than a bare 8 weeks - Mid-March to Mid-May effectively (when Google announced they were shutting down the online store).

Yeah tell me about it. I've got like 3 people lined up to get them for XT, but I can't find any .. so they may need to settle for the Desire I guess?

The specs list both models with no indication of which one it is. Some of these sellers don't even try…
