Ive been having this problem for just over a week now and today I decided to 'google' it to see what the story was.

Whats been happening is some texts Ive sent (not all) have not arrived to either Vodafone or Telecom mobiles for anything up to 3 days.

JohnR was a great help in proving it wasnt a network problem because they texts werent making the network in the first place. So Ive been trying to work out what it could be with the phone.

There are a lot of people on the web who have noticed its an issue when they lose 3G connectivity (or something like that). What I have just noticed is the text sits in an 'sending' status and goes nowhere. I also noticed there was nothing going up or down in the 3G arrows on the taskbar.

So instead of rebooting as 'google' tells me too I simply fired up the browser which kicked it into life and immediately the text was sent. Everyone Ive sent since doing this has gone through fine.

So has anyone else heard/read anything about the N1 losing its 3G connection and not sending texts because of it ?

I need to do some more research to see if this is my problem and some more testing but what got me thinking was one of the people lost their connection when they got into a lift and Im up and down in lifts all day. Dont want to spend all day in one testing this theory out though !!

Im off home now, down in the list first so Ill send one when I get out to see if it works !

Cheers

[edit] Ten mins later and a text wont send. I click on the browser and select a favourite. I then get the 'Web page not availalbe' error. My 3G icon disappears from the taskbar for a few seconds and comes back. Now I can surf and I can send a text.

Well i have never had that problem with my N1. But there are defintley problems with the N1 which is a shame because it isnt a bad phone. But I guess nothing is perfect. Hopefully somebody can shed some light on the issue :)

Are you running a custom ROM? 3G problems are fairly common with some of these.

I have never had your specific issue with the stock ROM's but have noticed odd similarities with custom ROM's. A factory reset can often resolve issues, or at least a refresh of settings.

You could use a backup app to cover your apps and general settings and factory reset with a consequent restore from the backup app and you shouldn't have too much troubles.

Standard ROM for me all the way. It definitely looks like the 3G drops out at some point and needs a kick to get started again.

I thought it was the lifts at work and the car park but even though I get down to zero or one bars I could still text straight after it last night.

Ill keep an eye on it, but it is a little annoying when wanting to send a text that I need to watch it to see if its worked or not. If Im honest it has slightly taken some of the gloss off the phone :(

I have this exact same problem too!

I am running a stock ROM, Nexus One is from Vodafone NZ, and every day at some point I either get texts that wont send (even to txt-a-park) and 3G that doesn't work.  The 3G problem is more common thant the text problem.

I have noticed that when I take the phone off charge (wall charger, I don't use the USB charger) that for several minutes the 3G wont work.

I havn't bothered researching this yet as it doesn't happen enough to be a pain.

I will see what google et al say, and would be very interested in knowing others experiences with the N1

I'm running CyanogenMod 6.0.0 and have no issues with txts. On my previous Froyo ROM, "Noir 7" from eViLD, the 3G would drop out after I stopped the wifi hotspot...and sometimes I had to re-boot, though stopping and starting wifi would normally sort it. But that doesn't happen on CM6.

I agree some custom ROMs are flakey...but CyanogenMod wouldn't usually be one of them.....not that it's perfect, but it more often already has fixes for issues like this....than not.

What do you use to send txts? Handcent? Or the default Messaging app?

if it the default app, try:

Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications and touch the "All" tab at top.

Go down the list and find "Messaging". Touch it.

When it's properties open, touch "Clear data".

Then go back to Home and try to send a txt. This is the equivalent of a factory reset just for this one app.

I recommend the "Backup to Gmail" app. It's syncs your txts, MMS and call log with your Gmail account with appropriate labels: "SMS", "MMS", "Call log".  I never lose txts anymore. It's all in my Gmail.

There were rumours about an unfixable radio problem on the nexus 1, iirc google released an official statement about it but I can't remember the details.

Anyway your browser is trying to load data, which is doing something to the cellular modem that also fixes the txt issue. In the past I've had to write code that eventually hard reset a device's modem when it wasn't cooperating, you might be seeing something similar here.

Anyway I'd suggest checking that you've got the latest android version from Google as their nexus 1 rollout of the update to froyo was a bit of a debacle to say the least. If you want to really get stuck in you can also check and update the device's radio firmware and/or try one of the custom ROMs.
