Someone has kindly written a remote control for linux music players, called Tesla it currently supports Rhythmbox, Totem, VLC, amaroK, Banshee, Dragon Player, Exaile, Kaffiene, MPD and Songbird. Since it uses SSH to control the players, all you need on your system is an ssh server. Also since it uses an ssh server it is also easy to add additional players.

It is not signed yet and currently isn't avaliable in the market yet, you can download the apk here. I was researching into using the same idea (ssh) to control linux players from my phone, but someone's done it for me! Thought I'd share this little gem :)

Here's the thread on Ubuntu forums; http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1248917

That's pretty cool, it's a shame I can't get it to work over the internet (work computer has a server nature to it, so full public IP etc) - But will be handy using this over the Wifi at work, the amount of times I am there by myself blasting out loud music then the boss walks in >.<

Cheers for sharing it :)

Good to know someone else does appreciate it :)

Interesting to know that it doesn't work over the internet... I wonder why? If it just uses ssh, all the commands and everything should be transferable...

I think it might be a "Design Feature" - it doesn't like public IP's - which means it doesn't work with my work computer (2x public IP's)

A bit of a shame :(

How would not being able to use it over the net be a feature?
