I just had a quick look around the webs and can't seem to find any handset for sale right now that supports Android 2.2 right out of the box or off the shelf here in NZ?

Am I missing something here?

Orcon sells the HTC Desire which should ship with 2.2 now or it will be an OTA from 2.1

I would think a Nexus from vodafone would be 2.2 out of the box, or if not update to it pretty much on power up

The Samsung Galaxy S and the Nexus One are 2.2 devices.
These require a update though, which is easy, I think the rest in NZ are Android 1.6/2.1

Nexus One may come with Android v2.1, but it will update to Android v2.2 within minutes of being turned on and signed in.

I bought two and both them were upgraded within 2 hours - one over 3G and the other over wifi. That's as good as "out of the box" to me.

2Degrees announced the IDEOS today...preloaded with Android v2.2. It looks like it has 256MB of RAM, so should run it quite well. JIT should see the 528MHz Qualcomm MSM7225 processor run very nicely. Only reservation there is it's an ARMv6 processor, so no Adobe Flash for that so far - and unlikely to be, unless Adobe change their minds. If you've never had it on the phone it's easy to live without it. But once you've had Flash on your Android v2.2 phone....you want to keep it. I watch TV3 and TVNZ OnDemand easily through my Froyo phone....over wifi or 3G.

I've upgrade my Galaxy S through "Kies" to stock Froyo "JP6"....an Nordic build that required a mild Windows registry hack to trigger......and it runs well. So in a sense that is available, too. The Kiwi flavour for Froyo for the Galaxy S is supposed to be out by the end of November.

Apparently....Android v2.3 is about to drop from Google. So the scramble begins anew. :-) You'd be wanting a Nexus One if you want that soonest.

Only obvious downsides are the ARMv6 processor and lack of UMTS 850MHz or 900MHz. So you'll only get 3G in built-up areas....and it is a good 2Degrees phone as they may well prove to be the carrier with the best 2100MHz 3G coverage...at least in the big cities.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

The IDEOS has UMTS 900 so will work just fine out of town.

Ta....on GSM Arena it was 2100MHz only.

Thanks for the link.
