I have a mobile data indicator [An H with an up/down arrow] on my tool bar at the top of my home screen and I notice that when I have mobile data switched on the red up arrow lights up for a second every 4 - 6seconds or so.  The GPS indicator is not showing in the tool bar so I don't think it is that.

Is normal and is this using any data or just keeping the connection alive?

Ok, I managed to stop this constant connection by stopping some background services obex, winamp sync etc. Not sure which was doing but it has stopped now. I will do a systematic service shut down to see which one was doing it but would still like to know if these brief 0.5 - 1 second connections would have been using data?

I would like to keep my data connection on but would rather the phone didn't makes it's own connection decisions.

Any suggestions appreciated

EDIT/UPDATE...it seems that the Winamp WiFi Sync service is the one that starts this behaviour.  I rebooted the phone and it wasn't happening at all apart from the initial user sync. But when I started WinAmp it began the intermittant data arrow flash.
