This is my first time here, great site!!

I have just updated my HTC Desire which operates on the XT network to Froyo and now the mobile internet won't work.

Have been into Telecom shop but young guy there didn't seem to know how to fix it.  Put the APN settings in again and restarted phone but still won't work.

Anyone lese get this problem after the update and any suggestions to fix it would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

I don't have the Desire, but usually if something isn't functioning on the Adroid after fw update, factory reset fixes it. Alternatively check out XDA forums and see if anyone else has a similar issue to yours.

Thanks, would doing a factory reset mean I lose all my contacts and applications?  Don't really want to do that if it means I lose everything.

If I don't get a fix off this forum might just try another Telecom shop and hopefully get someone who knows a bit about these phones.  Cheers for your input.

Yes it does mean you will lose everything as it is being reset back to factory settings - ie what you had on the phone when you first got it out of the box. There is a way to back everything up. There are apps on the android market (free) which will allow you to do that. :>

THat's also why you sync everything to google :)
Titanium backup is good for backing up stuff.

I had this issue as well but reloading the APN's from a backup worked for me. I think I did it twice before it work though ...

Yeah just get the APN settings from the APN post and set them up. If everything else is working fine don't do a reset as the first option.

Have put in the apn setings restarted phone and still mobile internet wont work.  HTC support suggests doing a factory reset.

As the ohone is set to back up apps automatically, will this mena my downloads will all be restored if I do a factory reset?

Also, how do I back up or save all my phone contacts, as I don't want to lose all of them.

Go to your "People" app and choose import/export from then back up to SD card and copy the resulting file to your PC but this isn't necessary really as your Android syncs contacts with your Google account [provided you haven't changed the default actions] so they will all be stored in yoru Google contacts list and will return when you sync the phone the first time after the reset.

Go to your google account and check that all the names and numbers are saved in your contacts cards. if you are still worried, export your google contacts list to a .csv file for safe keeping and re-import if something goes wrong.

Just don't manually delete your contacts list off your phone or when it syncs with Google it will delete them from there too.
