FYI - the latest beta of Swype is now out. Details in the new features are here

I find Swype to the best keyboard for the N1 (but I haven't checked other Android phones). It makes typing so much faster and more accurate (usually).

Mmmm, I've downloaded the installer but it says I must uninstall my existing version first.

I've been unable to uninstall.  I've force stopped the app and cleared the cache yet the uninstall button is disabled.

I'm not part of the beta programme.  I wonder if you've got to be?

Has anyone found a way to uninstall swype?  My swype version is 2.6.47.11856

Swype is a system app on the SGS so you would need to use something like Titanium Backup, or possibly delete the app files directly using Root Explorer, assuming the phone is rooted of course.

I've tried Swype several times. It seems to accumulate word fragments that hide real words...and you have to go and clear the fragments out. It's also constantly in beta and if you reload your phone, it gets upset.

It's on the SG-S by default....but without a lag fix, it lagged so bad it was barely usable.

I  have been using SlideIt for a while now and find it - generally - better than Swype. No word fragments. But it does seem to "forget" words I do add in the course of typing using the "+" function. But I can also manually add words separately. It's also a finished product, so no beta registration hassles. You just buy it and use it. Done.

I'd already gone in and renamed the swype.apk and the lib file but it then created a FC when I ran the swype installer.  I guess I can move the files and see if that resolves it.  Will let you know.  Cheers
