Hi all, I am new here but I have been reading this forum about this phone and on the strength of the positive discussions on the 845 I have purchased one today, this being my first smartphone. It seems to be ok, I am just getting to know it, but I am having a problem connecting to my wifi. The phone recognises and remembers my network but wont connect to it!! Can anyone maybe help me out here, thanks.

There are several ways to set up a WiFi network. The simplest way have an open network so anything can connect ( and chew up your bandwidth - not recommended )
Usually under your router settings under Wifi you will see many options make sure if you have mac devices listed that your phones mac address is listed there as allow always ( or similar ).
Make sure the IP address given to your phone is not blocked under a different menu in your router as this will stop any internet traffic but allow connection for internal traffic - ie from PC - phone - printer - TV etc etc.
Should not be difficult but if your phone is displaying the wifi symbol in the top bar then I would suggest looking at those router settings.

Edit : Mac address is like the device serial number will look like 78:1D:BA:xx:xx:xx under about phone / status / make sure this is not being blocked in the router. A mac address is what tells the router where to send the data to ( well sort of )

Check the channel setting on the router. I had a similar problem with my phone, it turned out that my router was set to a channel that the phone didn't recognize. Changing the channel fixed the problem.

Are you entering the pass phrase / password for WPA/WPA2 in the phone correctly ? I would assume you know what this is ?

If you are unsure of your key your router may tell you ( not sure for WPA ) but it does for WEP. these settings can be found under wireless / security ( or similar ) on your router.

fallen: thanks but there is 13 channels on the router and I tried the 1st 3 to no avail so set it back to auto.

jonb: the phone seems to have WPA/WPA2 setting only so that is what I have set the router to

numberone: yep I have checked and rechecked the settings and they are def. the same so I am at a loss

thanks for all your suggestions guys, but does anyone have any others :)

Does it connect to a wi-fi hotspot in somewhere like mcdonalds or starbucks without a problem?

There'll be a setting in the phone somewhere to switch wi-fi the connection on or off, make sure that's not accidently set to 'off' ?

There's other alternatives like switching off the password security on your home wireless network, and only allow connections by MAC address (you add the MAC addresses of all PCs and phones manually to a list in the router) but shouldn't be any need to do that sort of thing. That's not a totally secure way to setup your home wireless though. It's almost certain the problem is some setting in the phone not quite right.

when I turn on the phone wifi it says it remembers my connection, and says its scanning and says its disconnected. I will try it out at a maccas sometime but am seriously thinking of getting rid of the phone alltogether as I am finding it a bit frustrating :(

http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider run that on your laptop and figure out what channel the wifi is on and what security it's using.

Set the AP to open/no security and use your laptop to prove that you've done that correctly.

Then get your phone to connect to the ap and prove that you can at least connect to an open ap.

Then put the WPA security back on your AP and prove it again with your laptop.

Then attempt to reconnect with your phone.

If you can't even connect to an AP with open access then there's a chance there's something wrong with the phone - others may like to concur?

Forget about mac security, that's just confusing the question further, turn that off on your ap unless you have a known reason for using it.
