Hi there

I am having problems finding out how to (or whether I can) get my Galaxy 5 with Android 2.1 to play Flash videos, notably videos embedded within web pages (eg TV3's site).

It seems that Skyfire supports this, but it appears that we can't get this in New Zealand.

I see one website here that explains how to install Flash 10.1 on a 2.1 device, but I haven't tried it as I'm not sure whether it will work on my phone.

Can I please ask for advice on what my options are here? Do I have any options that will enable me to play Flash videos within a browser (or even if a link is opened in a separate app)?

On related news, I've read elsewhere on this forum that some have upgraded the Galaxy 5 to 2.2 - does anyone know if there are any plans to officially release an upgrade for this phone, or where I could find out this information? I'm assuming that this may help with my problem of playing Flash videos.

Many thanks for any help anyone is able to provide.

Cheers
Jonathan

Is there like an APK of Skyfire somewhere on the net ?

Oh and when you load the webpages it actually goes through the skyfire server so wouldn't they detect that you're in new zealand anyway ?

market shows skyfire 3.0 is on the market free to download..

unless it shows because my locale is set to usa.

i always thought skyfire was available for everyone on android? the symbian and windows mobile versions i believe were limited to usa only.

Skyfire is not available to download on my phone - that it is visible on yours is, I assume, due to you running Market Enabler. I could try installing that, but guess I'm reluctant to make the purchase considering I have no guarantee that Skyfire still won't work, as per the other poster's comments. I've found an apk of Skyfire and will see what happens with that.

Does anyone else have any ideas as to what my options are?

Thanks

I don't have an Android (yet Cool)

BUT, could it be possible that maybe your device is not supported because it has a 240x320 resolution screen ?

Thanks for the link; I downloaded the APK for the latest version of Skywire (v. 3) and installed it via Astro file manager. It installed fine, and I've had some luck playing flash videos within it.

The one problem I've struck (but haven't investigated far) is with some of the videos on TV3 on demand - while it will play the ad at the beginning of the programme, it doesn't go on to play the programme. Any ideas?

Cheers
