Hi all,

Sorry if this has been covered, I tried the forum search but got no results.

I'm looking at getting a Samsung Galaxy. I want the S, but my budget is more around the 580's price point. How much would I be losing and what would I be compromising on if I went with the cheaper handset?

I aim to misbehave

Size is the main thing. 3.2" Vs 4" The rest of the operation seems to be the same. Note sure how .8" = $600 price increase though..

are you serious? there is a fairly huge difference between them in regards to processing power, display size, quality, camera quality.

It'll ultimately depend on how you want to use the device.

The smaller (lower resolution) screen of the 580 is OK for reading text based web sites and email/texts, but the larger screen does make a difference if you want to constantly use a lot of smart phone features. Plus the S is a faster machine.

For me I find the 580 OK, but it's not my primary interface to the world as I have a laptop in front of me most of the day (but do use the 580 for reading the news most mornings). I've used an X10 (which has a larger screen), and whilst I enjoyed the extra realestate, for me the overall larger size of the unit was not suitable for what I needed.

Other than that it's a question a bit like, 'should I buy a Corolla or a Camry'......

I think it's more like "should I buy a Toyota or a BMW".

I have a Galaxy S and a colleague has a 580. There is no comparison in the screens - mine is large and crystal clear - hers is small and grainy/pixely. Mine has Froyo 2.2.1 - hers has 2.1. They are like chalk and cheese but of course there is the huge price difference.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

The user experience is also vastly different, you can play all of the latest 3d games on the i9000 and it's a multimedia beast supporting a multitude of formats all on a WVGA Super Amoled display.
