Owned the HTC Desire HD for 3 months. Been great since day one, but over the weekend, while I was out and about (ie. not touching the phone), all of my text messages disappeared. Yes, all. I have checked my settings to ensure it wasn't set to automatically delete my messages over a certain time/limit.

After googling, I have found there are plenty of others having the same issue, occurring after either a few days of use to a few months.

Anyone else had this problem?

Android itself I think. I read somewhere that when it recognises a particular file is corrupt, it automatically deletes it and generates another one.

Happened on my HTC Desire last week. However I had been deleting some caches. I am sure I didn't delete anything to do with sms but I can't be 100%. Never done it before though.

Happened to me on my Desire HD, sounds like it is a problem with the latest update according to the xda message boards.

You have failed me for the last time!

I have owned the desire hd for almost 3 months now and this has happened twice for me too :(

First time it happened i thought it was just htc sense messages app crashing and i lost over 500+ messages all in one go, needlesss to say i was quite pissed off!

Now it happened again this morning and I cant believe how much noise has been made on the internet/forums such as android forums and yet no response/fix from HTC????

Yes, from what some people have noticed it looks like something is making the .db files which contains the sms/mms messages to become corrupt:

(copied from a google android help forum)

here is an adb bugreport.
I was texting back and forth when this happened to me for the second time. I ran the
bug report immediately after it happened.

Note: all messages disappeared at 14:06.
The debug line that is most interesting to me is:
05-17 14:06:31.592 E/Database( 5171): Removing corrupt database:
/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db

It would appear that the mmssms database (which holds all of our texts) is somehow becoming corrupted.

-I use Advanced Task Killer, but Messaging is on the ignore list.
-I currently use "SMS Popup" and "SMS Backup", but I was not using these the first
time this happened to me.

p.s. I didn't get a "force close" message this time like I did last time.

I think the DHD is a fantastic phone with real slick features but if they dont fix this they are going to lose a lot of customers!!

Im going to try the sms backup apps but still not really a workaround to a real bad bug!!

Almost tempted to jump the gun onto the samsung bandwagon :(

grrr
