After downloading an app from the market (cant remember the name of it)..
It rebooted itself and now the phone wont reboot.

It comes up with the Galaxy S I9000 logo and everything but go into my main screen
It continues to vibrate and the screen stays all black.

The lights on the 'back' on the left and the 'menu' panel on the left has its lights on but it just vibrates as if its force closing and wont boot...

Tried system reboot by holding down the keys and tries reboot but wont reboot...

Any ideas????

My phone has been rooted so im guessing that the warranty on the phone wont apply??

Please help!!!!!!:(

I take it you did not do a backup, can you get into the recovery of the phone ?

yeah no back up, i can go into recovery and when i choose data reset, still doesnt work.
if i take this to samsung in in new zealand will they fix it?

They might, but if its rooted you could try and load a custom firmware to see how that goes, up to you.

Also goto http://forum.xda-developers.com/ find your phone and ask if anyone has had the same problems etc, great guys over there always willing to help people out.

Out of interest, what is the name of the app so others won't be affected by it if that is indeed what caused the problem?

Try another ROM; I take it you are unable to connect your phone by USB?

I would recommend anybody using custom roms etc get a USB Micro SD card reader of Ebay or elsewhere, mine was ?1.79 including shipping from Hong Kong
Sounds like it would be perfect for this very situation if you need to back up your card but can't get your phone USB connected.

Please remember the name of the app, sounds dodgy. Not malicious just flawed.

Hey wow thanks I actually think that may be a good idea. But I am not too familiar with using a different ROM..I mean it took a while to get used to Rooting my phone.

So what you are saying is that if I can somehow install a different ROM even I cant pass the initial Galaxy S logo with a USB??

If you are able to access the card through a reader you can drop a new ROM zip on it and the latest Radio Zip and install them through Clockwork Recovery once the card is back in the phone.

Changing ROMs is easy as once you have rooted it once as most of the hard work is done.
Changing rom is the easy part you just select the install Zip from SD card option from Clockwork Recovery, you may want to select the Wipe Data Reset option once you have backed up any photos & files on the SD card.
I have tried about 4 recently after having issues with one. I have gona back to CyanogenMod 6 for stability.

You have to either

1. Stick a new rom on a micro sd card and then put the card into the phone and then reboot into recovery and flash the new rom

or 2. Reboot into download mode and use odin to flash a new rom

Option 1 is safer

Tbh I think it's going to be faster to get into download mode and flash using Odin

Despite what some others have said, your best bet is to use ODIN 1.70 to flash a new ROM. Using clockwork to flash the rom would normally be ok, but you have an unknown fault with the software or filesystem on your phone; ODIN will perform repartition and reformat of your phone reverting it back to factory defaults.

You will need to do a lot of reading in the XDA developers i9000 forum; i suggest the General sub forum and also the development sub forum. You want to read about using ODIN to flash a factory rom WITH 2e recovery built in. Alternatively, you could flash a customised rom with CWM (ClockWorkMod) built in. But they must be in the correct format for ODIN (and only use odin 1.7).

I suggest you try Darky's resurrection edition, or the samsung JM8 (old rom, but it has 2e built in, works well and can then be used to install a newer rom).

Your alternative is to send the unit back to samsung and wait a few weeks. But, if you try the above, and it doesn't work, you still have that option. Just tell them Kies went wrong. But if it works - you have a working phone in a few hours.

DO BE VERY CAREFUL. If you do NOT read everything in great detail and perfectly, you WILL stuff your phone and you will be paying samsung to fix it for you. (The same applies to flashing via 2e/CWM recovery).

I agree to what's been said. I would flash a stock samsung ROM on it first via samfirmware.com using ODIN (you must be in download mode). Then get a custom ROM after that. I'm a big fan of Darky's ROM. Goodluck!
