Hi there. I turned my Google Nexus One phone off when I went to sleep last night when I was laying in bed. When you turn it off it vibrates to let you know its off, but I pressed the Power button to check if it was still on or if it turned off. It turned off and it started booting up as normal, no biggie I Thought ill just wait till it starts up again and turn it off.

When the phone was on its boot animation it kept loading as normal (for about 8 seconds) then stopping for 1-2 seconds and starting back from the beginning of the boot animation again. This kept going round and round in circles for about a minute when I decided just to take the battery out, go to sleep and I thought everything would be OK this morning.

When I put the battery back in and started it up again the exact same thing happened. My Nexus One is stuck on the boot animation and it wont change from that.

My phone is not rooted, I have never done anything "Techy" to it. Just simply used it as a phone, only installed apps from the Android Market Place. I have not done anything different to it than what I normally would. I have not dropped it, nothing at all this all just came out of the blue.

Is my phone bricked? If yes how do I fix it? If its not bricked what is wrong with it and how do I fix it?

Its running 2.2

Thanks for all the help, greatly appreciated :)

Boot while holding the trackball and see whether you get into the boot menu. If so, it should be possible to recover (but I'm not an expert and can't comment further).

Hi there. When I hold down the power buttom and the volume down button (upon starting the phone up) I manage to get into the Boot Menu (At least I think that is what it is). It has the options of...

- Fastboot
- Recovery
- Clear Storage
- Simlock

I dont want to select anything incase I do more damage to my phone as im not sure what each one does/what it means.

No my phone is not rooted, nor has it ever been dropped. Ive never done anything I shouldnt. I dont have a warranty as such but I purchased the phone 12th August 2010. Im not sure if you get a standard 1year warranty or what? But I didnt purchase one.

Select Fastboot then Power Down to get back to the normal system. As for what to do next, wait for an expert :)

If you bought it from a New Zealand store it is automatically covered by the consumer guarantees act for at least one year. So if you still have proof of purchase you could take it back to the store you bought it from? They're obligated to repair, replace or refund if it's still under warranty.

Fair enough. What are they most likely to do? Repair? It was bought from a VFNZ retailer if that makes any difference.

It depends what the issue is really. If it's something they have seen before and can fix right there then repair, quite often they will send it off to get repaired. Do you have proof of purchase? If not you may be on their system from when you made the purchase. Best idea if you can't find a fix on here is to go into the store and ask your options.

Yes I have the receipt. I purchased it in August last year. 7 and a half months I have had it.

If you have done nothing to the operating system of the phone i.e. rooting etc, then take it into the store you bought it from along with the receipt. All phones sold through vodafone come with a one year warranty so this will still be valid.

Cheers thanks for the help. Also, I am using a 2D sim card not a VF one. Will they still be ok with that? Im guessing so but thought I would check incase.

Another option if you can get to the Boot menu is to grab the latest firmware release, Gingerbread. You can download that from a number of sites, put it onto your microSD card (you will need an external reader since your phone won't boot up), and try to flash the new firmware.

[Details of how to do this left to the reader - Use Google!]

That certainly doesn't invalidate the warranty, nor is it likely to make your current situation any worse and it could fix it.
