The launch of the Xperia Play is being delayed because the shipment was stolen according to Vodafone NZ's twitter. There's an article over at Engadget: http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/17/xperia-play-shipment-to-new-zealand-stolen-vodafone-launch-dela/

Wow, thanks for this news article.

I had no idea SonyEricsson were still trying to make phones that don't suck.

Audiophiles are such twits! They buy such pointless stuff: Gold plated cables, $2000 power cords. Idiots.

OOOHHHH HYPERFIBRE!

I'd like to see Vodafone New Zealand sending out an official announcement to media outlets - just that a tweet might not have such a big impact with the mainstream consumer.

They should do it also to raise the concern that for the next few months there will be a lot of those handsets on Trade Me, so buyer beware.

I'd guess something between 300 and 500 handsets stolen? Unless this is sold to overseas buyers via eBay, and in the black market here, I don't think parallel importers would touch a lot of those handsets offered out of the blue from someone they never bought things before...

I believe this is just a bit  of viral marketing.

They have said they will reveal more on facebook tomorrow.

I would take this news with a grain of salt

For billions of years since the outset of time, every single one of your ancestors survived, every single person on your Mum and Dads side, successfully looked after and passed onto you life.  What are the chances of that like?

I woke up to this in my RSS feeds this morning, not often NZ makes the news in places like Engadget!

BLazeD: Is this related

http://www.3news.co.nz/Vodafone-labelled-Vodafail-as-marketing-stunt-flops/tabid/412/articleID/21167...

Lmao wow. Seems very related. The Handsets havent been selling very well worldwide so I guess this was a marketing plan. Get people into the story, hope they havent heard of the handset and think "wow" and then hopefully the consumer will buy it.

Thats my take on it anyway.

Yeah if they really want to market it they should provide free Xperia Play phones to Geekzone members to review (hint hint)
