Ditch Kies, it's highly unreliable. Go to the following link, download the KE7 update and Odin. Then use the instructions given and you'll be away laughing. It's very simple and only takes a few minutes to flash the phone.

Unfortunately there are no change logs with the updates. I had to Google the main changes, my main one has been the improved battery life, but it's nothing life changing.

Changes:
More free RAM on bootup.
RAM useable up to 837M; 5MB more RAM for use.
The pink spot problem of camera has been resolved.
Improved image quality of camera, and better zoom panel.
Battery life seems longer now and the handset seems speedier.
Picture for background adjustments has changed.

I've noticed my battery stays at 100-98% much longer when first off charge, but I use mine a lot and it's typically nearly dead by 7pm each day (about 13 hours use). There'd be around three to four hours screen use in there though, and another 4-6 hours use as an MP3 player, so not really a surprise. I didn't buy it to leave it in my pocket...

mate you were right KE7 is worth the upgrade. Now I just have to figure out how to update my wife's galaxy s to gingerbread. She bought it from voda last year and the download mode is disabled.

Scary. Does Kies have an update available for her Galaxy S?

no it is stuck on 2.2. calling samsung helpline is waste of time as they are good for nothing. Ask vodafone they know nothing.

You will likely have to flash it using Odin, however there is a high risk factor since it has no download mode. I'm sure there is a way to resolve that however I haven't done it. Post in the i9000 thread to see if anyone else has experience with it.
