I was looking for a USB OTG cable for my SGII on eBay and I saw someone selling a pair of adapters - one with USB female at the outboard end (i.e. standard OTG) and another one with HDMI female. Anyone know whether it's likely that the HDMI cable will work with the SGII? i.e. work like to yet-to-come MHL cable?

BTW the cables were US$8 for the set, post-free from China. They also had some standard OTGs with a right-angle plug at the phone end which looked pretty good.

Won't work, cannot have USB OTG and MHL connections simultaneously.

K1000716: Do you have a link? All I find are mini HDMI/USB OTG combos like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/MINI-HDMI-Micro-USB-OTG-Cable-fo-Archos-70-101-MID-/130486135400?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item1e61946a68#ht_742wt_905

or these:
http://cgi.ebay.com/CA-157-CA-156-USB-Data-OTG-HDMI-Cable-Nokia-N8-/110660412271?pt=AU_MobilePhoneAccessories&hash=item19c3dfe36f#ht_2961wt_986

The specific listing I was looking at doesn't seem to be there now but this is similar to what I saw:

http://cgi.ebay.com/N8-Orignal-MINI-HDMI-Micro-USB-OTG-Cable-CA156-CA-157-/120687993799?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c1990a3c7

The only thing is you can't tell whether the Micro USB end is Micro A or Micro B. Anyway, seems it's academic now because nzteckfreak says no go.

Well, I haven't actually tried it, but MHL and USB connections are mutually exclusive, thats wired into the hardware, so there seems little to no chance they will work.

Never mind the fact that the HDMI cable they list is not micro usb so won't plug in anyway.

Can't wait to see the results from the MHL adaptor tests...

Wow, the cable is awesome! HD content looks beautiful, and gaming with an external controller is heavenly. Currently converting video, Clove Blog will have uploaded to youtube later.

I can't wait!

Is it a cheaper alternative to the OEM one?

Unfortunately no, its a prototype one direct from the consortium. Cheaper ones will come very soon though...
