Just in case you haven't caught up with the latest free Galaxy S version of the Navigon Navigator app recently, good news abounds.

Localised pronunciation of names is way better in Svox turn-by-turn, including Maori "wh" pronounced "f", for example.
St as in "saint" is now pronounced properly, no longer "street" (St as in "street" was always correctly pronounced)
Rd as in "road" is no longer pronounced "arr-dee"
Ave as in "avenue" is no longer pronounced "ah-vay"
Dr as in "drive" is no longer pronounced "dee-arr"
and so on.

Lane assist is now free with the latest update so you don't have to spring for the safety extras pack. And it's very good.

For those unfamiliar with Navigon, it's easily as good a nav app as Google's Maps Nav, but has the great advantage that it stores complete area maps for NZ and Oz on your SGS so you won't be using your precious data allowance to navigate and your route recalculations happen virtually instantly should you need them.

As this app is intended for Oz SGS variants, you'll need root and Market Enabler to spoof an Aussie carrier in order to download and update. Spoofing 50502 works.

This is a class app made virtually perfect with the recent updates.

Highly recommended.

Cheers,
R2D2

Undoubtedly. I had to download maps again also. On wifi it took literally 2 minutes.

The lane assist is reason enough for the update on its own, IMHO. You'll probably guess that I'm a serious fan of Navigon although based on the price for the retail version and its map cost, I'd probably buy a standalone GPS with subscription instead, as Navigon is a 'premium' product. Free is an excellent price point though. Wink

Edit: Get the Svox voice pack - costs a couple of bucks but voices are miles better than Pico stock versions.

Yes I'm a fan of it too and of the free price.

My mother has an HTC Wildfire with SVOX (Victoria voice pack) and its great when it works. But half the time an american lady interupts whenever she is using google navigation. My mother jokes that the phone has a split personality.

Haunted, perhaps? Surprised

The male voice that came with the update is pretty good. Has a posh Kiwi accent which is a nice alternative to Victoria's English version.

I've been testing the app with intermediate destinations, forcing it to recalculate and so on, and so far it's bulletproof. With Nokia's depth of experience, it's not a surprise really. Fully expecting the 3D terrain look of the newest Google Maps to appear in the near future.

I might be having a blonde day, but where did you download from? I went into Navigon Fresh and it tells me I am on the latest software 3.5.3
