Hi,
As a previous owner of an iPhone I had the TomTom GPS app installed which was brilliant. I have just switched to a Galaxy S2 which so far has exceeded my expectations. My only problem is looking for a GPS app with support for New Zealand that doesn't eat through my data each month. (I.e the maps are stored on the device)

Hopefully someone here knows of such an app :)

I have "sygic" which seems pretty good. I haven't used it in a city yet though.

I use the Google navigation and actually I've found the data use to be far less than I'd feared. I suppose it depends how often you use it, if you needed to use it everytime you were driving anywhere it would be scary, but for occasional use, when I don't know where i'm going, it's fine. Whats interesting is that it caches the entire route at the start of the journey, so if you don't trust it to not keep downloading more, just turn off data after that. It'll still work fine.

What I find much more of a problem on my Ideos with GPS is battery life. It destroys it!

They don't appear to have maps available for NZ. Or do they and the site just isn't updated? Where are you using it?

Textured maps, 3d building/landmarks, when in navigation mode it is very similar to TomTom, menus are differnet but in an "android" style, intuitive and easy to use.

I find I hardly ever use my standalone tomtom these days, Sygic locks a location in stupidly quickly and is so damn convenient

Yes all the maps are offline as far as i know.

Re-routing is as fast as a standalone tomtom, no street names but has land guidance, speed cameras, speed limits etc

Compared to iphones tomtom app no android app can hold its own by comparison, that said Sygic is a 98% solution, no other android offline navigation app comes even close

I tried a couple of others (N Drive, Co-Pilot) and was deeply disappointed, and had almost given up then i found sygic and my faith was restored.

I think they may have rebranded/imaged as it used to go by the name of Aura iirc, there is mention somewhere it uses tomtom maps, I can't confirm as my work is in a 6mth old street and tomtom has it but Sygic doesn't, maybe they are a map behind or something, either way it is completely satisfactory

i just seen this tread and decided to download it, i see on the main page on the google market it says it uses tomtom maps (i didnt really read much, but stood out while scrolling)
