I've found top-10 doing Samsung Galaxy unlocked for under $1000. Seems like a good deal but it stated you have you pay $150 for 1 year warranty.

Is it just me or it seems a bit odd?

If they are an NZ company I'm fairly certain it's illegal to charge for a warranty that is not explicitly stated as an extended warranty (which are a dupe anyway). You are covered by the Consumer Guarantees Act whether or not you buy a warranty.

I would contact them and tell them that they have to honor any faulty returns even if you don't buy a warranty as they are an NZ retailer (with a real NZ address) and must abide by the CGA

www.einfo.co.nz has them cheaper and without this illegal warranty crap. I have dealt with them before, including a warranty issue. Went fine.

top-10.co.nz just looks dodgy to me. I don't think I'd risk my money. Just my opinion anyway.

From top-10's website:

Some of the products' packaging may have been opened to ensure everything in perfect condition and free of any defects. All phones are 100% genuine, unlocked, brand new.

I never like to buy from suppliers that open their products. Chances are you get sent returns/seconds/second hand etc.

When I buy something new, I expect it to be sealed. If it isn't sealed, it isn't new and you may as well just buy from Trademe.

I'm unsure if this is legal or not, but they definitely can't contract out of the CGA, so even if they claim it has no warranty, then this still applies. And one would expect a reasonable amount of time on a cellphone like this to be at absolute minimum two years anyway, if not many more.

Well so far so bad! I ordered this phone on Thursday 7th. I did not once get any updates from top 10 on my order or even an acknowledgement of my payment via email! (I had to ring them to confirm my payment and I could not understand her Indian accent). The only sparse info I get is on their online invoice system that tells me my order is complete. Nothing is updated about shipping!

I emailed them today & they promised to email me details - nothing! I rang them today the 13/07 and was promised the tracking number today - nothing!

On the topic about the warranty I stated the above comments on this thread to them and they obliged that I would be covered should there be a defect and they would handle it.

If I get this phone I'll let you guys know how it went.

No. Was told I would get it today - latest tomorrow.  I'll be nervous if I don't get it by midweek.

Do post back when it arrives (or if it doesn't arrive by end of week).

I bought my phone from these guys. So far, so good. If I ever need to return for warranty, I'll let you know how I get on!
