Apple took the lead from its previous second spot, with Nokia's plummeting share helping elevate the brand, and it has 19.1% market share.
However, that's a rather temporary win since Samsung's spectacular growth to 16.2% means it'll handily surpass Apple's market share in the third quarter as predicted by IDC in their previous quarterly update. Third spot sees Nokia with 15.7% but trending down. RIM grew 11% to hold 11.6% market share while HTC has fifth spot on 11%.
With Samsung growing at such a clip, it's readily apparent why Apple is resorting to litigation to keep its biggest competitor at bay. If you take that view, of course...
