Hi,
Not sure if this post belongs in the 2Degrees forum or the Android forum, but here it goes:
I just bought a Samsung Nexus S for a parallel import store and judging by the usb plug that came with it, that phone originally comes from the US (it also came with a T Mobile SIM card inside the box which kind of gave it away...)
The model number is GT-I9020T (this is the one with SAMOLED screen).
I put my 2Degrees card in there and the APN were set up automatically.
When using the wireless data, I can see that the icon says "3G" whereas on my previous phone (an HTC Hero, also parallel imported) it said "H" (for HSDPA)
I also ran a SpeedTest and the results weren't really impressive. It went up to 1500kbps whereas my HTC Hero (albeit slow for other things) goes up to about 3000kbps.
It seems to me like the phone cannot use the HSDPA network from 2Degrees so there might be a frequency issue there...
According to Wikipedia, the Nexus S can either be AWS WCDMA/HSPA Tri-band (900, 1,700, and 2,100 MHz) or UMTS WCDMA/HSPA Tri-band (850, 1,900, and 2,100 MHz)
(Not sure which one I have...)
I also looked online and from what I could tell 2Degrees required UMTS850 or UMTS 2100. Can anyone confirm this?
The shop I bought if rom also had the other version (I9023, with different screen) which was originally sold in Europe.
I there any chance that this one would work better with 2Degrees' HSDPA frequencies?
Has anyone had experience with a similar issue?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Guillaume
