Samsung has taken over as biggest selling smartphone brand in Western Europe for the first time, on the back of a 700% increase year on year.

IDC's table (below) shows that HTC and 'others' also handily beat the iPhone's growth rate. Nokia's 60% share drop must be of real concern to the phone maker and Microsoft. RIM, as usual is still reporting growth but less than one third of the smartphone market as a whole.

One has to wonder if Apple's decision to delay their iPhone 5 model update to October has caused a drop in demand while purchasers wait for the new phone. However, Samsung's stratospheric growth rate cannot be denied. At least in Europe, the iPhone is no longer the phone of choice.
