I have been trying to post to GZ using my Motorola Xoom but the lag in typing characters and seeing them appear is very frustrating.

Just wondering what fellow GZ folks are experiencing using Honeycomb and the stock browser.

 Thanks

If nothing else, disable the rich text editor in your user profile.

Yep. I have the same lag on my transformer. I just live with it. HTML editor disabled. Stock browser.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Turned off the HTML editor and it's a bit better but not by much. But it seems to be OK in Firefox. Looking at forums it seems it's a problem with many forums that use JavaScript.

If it is in more than one site then I would blame the browser having a crappy JavaScript engine.

That's the general consensus out there. But just wanted too see if local users were experiencing it.

Given that the browser in Honeycomb is based on Chrome I wonder if Chrome has this problem.

Interestingly Gingerbread doesnt have this problem.

It's a known problem, check out this forum there are probably threads about it.

Get the Swype Beta, it's way way better than the built in keyboard. Google for it, you have to download the apk and sideload, there's a setting somewhere that lets you load apps from the file system instead of just from the app store. I think it has good instructions.

I am runnig Swype and it's even worse because it won't insert spaces between words. And is just as laggy.

That's weird, mine inserts spaces when you take your finger off the screen. It is kinda laggy but you can keep going at full speed and it does keep up, it just doesn't appear on the screen immediately.

Maybe it's the Xoom?

I was just using swype in the web browser on facebook and it was really laggy, and difficult to edit things. I think it's the OS or app, not the hardware. Xoom, Transformer, it's all the same under the hood.

I guess that's why iPads are so successful. They don't have to deal with this.

This posted using Firefox for Android which is better indicating the problem is likely in the stock browser.

I don't think being able to type quickly in forums is the ipads key to success... I love the stock browser, the quick side swipe actions are amazing. It does have the lag issues but I am sure it will get there. I would rather have Flash and crap Javascript engine than good Javascript and no flash.... :-)

Cheers!

no my  point was that they just work and users don't have to deal with annoying issues like this.

Don't get wrong. I love Android and and I have a N1, Motorola Xoom and Asus Transormer but none of them is niggle free.

OTOH my wife never complains about her iPhone or the kids with their iPod touches.

(typed laboriously with lots of corrections using a Xoom, the stock browser and Honeycomb 3.2)
