Hello,

I have a Telecom Galaxy S2. I followed these instructions and rooted the stock rom:
http://www.androidnz.net/2011/10/at-your-own-risk-how-to-root-your.html

This all went no problems. I then loaded Ginger Villan as I used that on my old HTC Desire and quite liked it.

I have always had bad cell coverage in my bedroom. After rooting and going to the new rom, areas where I previously got no bars but enough coverage to receive SMS no longer have any reception.

Has anyone rooted their phone and experienced anything similar? Can someone explain why this might happen? Does the carrier specific ROM have tweaks that affect coverage that a custom ROM may not have?

I had similar issues with my HTC Desire after rooting, I never really managed to fix it despite trying lots of different radio's. In that case I persisted, but while I like custom ROM's, the diminished coverage in my bedroom means its not realy worth the hassle.

Thanks

what modem (baseband) are you currently running? maybe it isn't the best for XT. Check the thread as posted by Kiwi above as there is a lot of info on modems and what best works here in NZ.

Running I9100TDOKG2
Kernel version 2.6.35.7-I9100XXKH1-CL438706

I don't quite get it because I didn't think what I did should impact on the radio performance.

I will have to check that thread after work (I was a bit daunted by the 160+ pages)

it is daunting but use search function and it should narrow it down. The I9100T which i think yours is, does have a recommended modem and is in thread somewhere.

Blaire, just go the last 10 odd pages. There's good info about the Telecom S2 (of which I have) and the best modems for it.

Many recommend KG2 or KG5. I run KI4 and have screens of my speedtests on there as well.

This will bring some increased visibility to your query. I usually check the new posts daily so came across your one. The other regular S2 users may not.

Feel free to ask more questions. Always happy to help.

Thanks. I read the last 20 pages, found a link and downloaded the original telecom Radio, but while I was there I thought I would try dlevROM. It comes with Baseband KI4 and that seems to be working better for me.

If I decide I prefer/want to try the original radio, can I just flash the radio using the 'phone' slot in Odin?

Yes, extract the modem.bin file and flash in the phone section. Make sure repartition is not checked.

Rooting itself does nothing for the reception but some ROMs have the modem included and some dont on the SGS2, Just find the right one and youl be golden, KI4 should be fine for you ;)

Heads up im releasing one tonight as soon as i settle on a name for it that will be good for your device (im on XT also)
