I bought the LG P 500 for my daughter for Christmas and I am having an issue wuth it always turning itself off.
It is always fully charged, but the charge doesn't last a full day, even when it is not in use.
Any suggestions???

Return it to place of purchase with proof of purchase and get the handset checked out under its warranty

Yeah sounds like it's stuffed, my brothers P500 last around 4-5 days on standby.

What is wrong with that?

I think he was making a comparison, i.e. it can last up to 4-5 days. Not saying his brothers was stuffed for  lasting that long.

I agree with John, return to place of purchase, it should last more than a day on Standby.

My experience with my P500 is that the battery drops significantly even in standby, which is crazy, but I think the rom I installed, even though official international P500 Gingerbread rom, is giving the phone crap battery life so I'll install the NZ firmware.

My Girlfriend got a p500 yesterday from Harvey Norman I think, only $150 on prepay with SIM, INCREDIBLE!

Yea, I use mine fairly frequently but I'm not a power user, but then overnight it drops significantly with auto sync off, I have another battery and external charger though so I just swap them when I need, I'm going to try find a nice new ROM and Kernel, to try push a bit further.  I've read something that if you don't clear a couple of the mobiles cache's before flashing you can reduce your battery life.

I have only recently been given an Android phone, and its my first phone experience with android.

Its a Vodafone 858. It has a 2.8" screen, 240 x 320 screen. It has poor battery life which it not a fault of the phone, but of the reception.

I'm thinking of buying a (Telecom for better reception at home) LG P500, the only dilemma is whether to get at $150 in black, or $180 in red.
What I'd like to know is how much better it would be going up to the LG's 3.2" screen with 320 x 480 resolution (much higher than 858's res)??

Also off topic, but I can't find anything on net, on the 858 when I go to settings -> about phone -> online update, there is a ~63MB update called torres_vodafone_b650... what is that? The phone is running 2.2.1, is it the 2.2.3 update or something??

It is my experience that a bigger screen and better resolution make for better user experience.

P500 good deal from Harvey Norman.

$149, comes with Gingerbread already installed these days, and a Telecom SIM with six months of 15 free minutes, 100 free texts, and 100MB data per month.

Insane deal for a good entry level phone.

You will need to wipe the cache and dalvik cache when flashing a different rom, not doing so can cause all sorts of issues.

Battery life issues will usually be related to the leftover batterystats.bin file from the previous rom. Simple solution is to just delete this as well. Most custom recovery menus will give you the option to wipe the battery stats, but alternatively you can navigate to it using a root explorer and delete it manually. Located at data/system/batterystats.bin

Is there a similar Vodafone compatible deal anywhere?

Is that a HN special offer? HN website refers to a Super Sim pack. I could not find any details on the Telecom website. I did find the Christmas Value Pack gives 15 MB per month for 6 months, not 100.
