Am hitting my head against the wall as I had configured my Android tablet for 3G/WCDMA on Vodafone's network. Now after rebuilding the Android have lost the settings . the Safaricom modem still works on my laptop so nothing wrong with the dongle or simm card. On the Android the Safaricom flashes the blue led as it detect the 3G network. But for connectivity it requires the Deviceno,APN,User,Password. I have tried *99# for the deviceno and APNs of live.vodafone.com and www.vodafone.net.nz but to no avail. If someone could possibly assist. many thanks.

Thanks for the speedy response John. however I tried those setting but still doesnt connect. Coincidentially around the same time as my connectivity issue, Vodafone upgraded my plan to "prepay smart", perhaps this may have been the cause . so may have to call them if all else fails.

Changing a prepay connection to Prepay Smart would not impact mobile data unless you have a $0.00 or no data bundle left

The reason I know this, I look after the platform

Have you tried SIM in another handset and tried mobile data? This will show that there is no issue on the Vodafone NZ side with the connection,

On the DUN have you added any IP address's like 172.030.038.003 (172.30.38.3) if you have remove it

Yes swapping the simm to my mobile works. Same too using the dongle+simm which fails on the android, yet works on my laptop. Am replying to you using this connection though the Safaricom modem sware. Tho' unsure if this means anything. But on the Laptop, before I click connect.. the status shows WCDMA Vodafone NZ, and after its connected it shows HSPA Vodfaone NZ.

This is correct the connection is only allocated HSPA radio resources after a connection is done not in standby

You were right , its not the network. the Rom upgrade was meant to fix my wifi dropout issue, which it did.But stuffed up the 3G which wasn't an issue before. going back to the original rom has proved this. Thanks.
