I noticed the other day that the license label (registration sticker) in your car has a stacked? barcode.

I tried to scan it with ZXing's barcode scanner app, and it would not read it.

Anyone have any better success with any other app?

What info does it contain, and what type of barcode is it exactly?

Cheers

Probably just vehicle ID, date and licence number is my guess. Which is linked to.... the big book of everything.

Probably a good cross reference for fake number plates and made up rego docs/stickers.

Ask the next Policeman you see holding a scanner.

I know when mine dropped off the window, the meter man got VERY excited and sent me to the Post Office to get a new holder.

More fun to get the Android ODB application https://market.android.com/details?id=org.prowl.torque&hl=en and link a Bluetooth 'box' to your car.  Laughing

Used Barcode Scanner+ (Plus) from Android Market

It returned an 8 digital number when the rego slip was scanned.

I'm not sure the app is compatible with a Sony Ericsson X10i as it disabled my camera after I closed the app and when I tried to restart the scanner app, I Just got a 'black' screen.

Android Market!!....refund!!!!... damn you long skinny fingers don't fail me!!

Then checked the Camera it's self....

Camera no longer exists.... (Slight Panic attack in nature of losing 8MP camera)

Restarted my phone. Started camera...... after a long wait... camera is OK.

It should return Rego plus VIN I think.

Hmm.. in my case it's doesn't sound like it worked.

I couldn't download the unicode applications cause my phone doesn't have support for it.

I'm lead to believe PDF417 is natively supported in ZXing, but in a quick test it's wasn't able to scanner the NZ vehicle rego barcode.
