Hey guys,

I've decided I want to install a custom ROM on my HTC Sensation. I've got no experience on rooting and installing ROMs on Android so if anyone has any recommendations for ROMs and could give me some detailed instructions on what to do I'd really appreciate it. I'm wanting to use a ROM based on stock ICS.

thanks for any help you guys can provide :)

You could start by having a look at the work done by CyanogenMod and information specific to your device in their forum.

You may have to wait for CM9 to be released for Android 4.0

That was the first place I looked but I can't seem to find any downloads available for the Sensation. The other one I've been looking at is the Virtuos Quattro ROM, does anyone have any experience with it?

You can look at XDA Forums. That is where I learnt to root/s-off/flash my Sensation.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300 is the thread to read to learn how to S-Off and root the phone.
http://www.androidmerom.com/2012/02/05/release-androidme-sensation-v2-0-0/ is a ROM made by a fellow Geekzone member. It is Ice Cream Sandwich and runs very fast and smooth. I have tried many different Roms but found CdTDroids roms to be very stable.
He also makes a Gingerbread Rom if you would prefer a rom based on official HTC Gingerbread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17932066&postcount=2
MIUI and Cyanogen are alternate Roms you can try if you want to try a Rom without HTC Sense.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1485733 is the MiUI thread and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1258543 is for Cyanogen. They are both good Roms based on Gingerbread but suffer from some bugs which can be read about in the forums.
Don't forget to read the thread on this site too. http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=97&topicid=85414 as there is some really good information in there from fellow Geekzone HTC Sensation users and some of the things they have found out about the phone and almost all things related to it.
All I can stress is to read and re-read the guides to flashing Roms etc, and always back up before making any changes.

I am using the AndroidME rom on my Sensation. Hopefully you can get some good information from the links provided.

Just read your post fully and saw the Stock ICS thing. As far as I can tell, Virtuous still suffers from a couple of issues but is usable depending on what you use your phone for. Another option could be to get a Senseless Rom which has most Sense items removed. If you are comfortable with flashing roms then your best bet is to try out as many different roms as possible. MiUI and Cyanogen both have rumours of ICS release coming so just keep an eye out for them.

Just use the XDA thread as above and you will be fine, just make sure you do the Super CID, comes in handy later
