I am an Android virgin and only use my @gmail.com email address for YouTube, Latitude etc. I am considering a move to Android (SHOCK HORROR) and if I do I will move my email accounts which are on my own domain to Google also.

I have ended up with 2 AppleIDs, a me.com one and one using my own domain email address and Apple awesomely won't provide a way to combine them or move purchases from one to the other. I don't want this to happen again.

So, my question, does Android on entering an email address on setup/registration populate that through all the settings/apps on the phone? Or can I quite happily continue using my @gmail.com address for some google services and my own domain email address for other ones?

I use two Google accounts.  One is my business and one is personal account.  Both have email (GMail).  I use them both on my Android phone.

You can chose which accounts sync which information (e.g. contacts, calendar, email etc).  I imagine it all looks/sounds quite complex and convoluted but it really isnt.  Android makes it quite easy to choose and configure.

I would recommend starting with one account even if just for a couple of hours whilst you initially play with the phone.  I think the first account you enter is used, by default, as the account to store which apps you have downloaded.  But you can download apps under different accounts.  Personally I stick them all under one account that I use the most (I simply sync things like email and calendar from the other account).

So to sum up: Yes you can use multiple accounts quite easily.

You're welcome.

Now, more importantly, what phone are you getting? Laughing

The Asus Padfone has me frothing at the mouth in anticipation of MWC. Not everyone's cup of tea but a concept I have wanted for years!

I have my GMAIL account and my Youtube account (setup before it became part of google and I don't want to move my movies over) setup on my phone the only problem I have had is in the app store making sure I add the apps to the correct account.

Hey Scott.

The only thing you have to be careful about is google talk. Whatever account you put in first will be hardcoded into the gtalk app. You can change the market account but not the gtalk app.

This was fixed in Honeycomb and ICS but if you are on Gingerbread there is no way to change it without a hard reset. I am not sure what OS the padfone comes with.

Looking forward to the padfone review!

Cheers, Matt.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Thanks guys. The Padfone will by all accounts come with ICS.

G+ is probably the only place where I need to make a decision as that is on my @gmail.com address, not that I actually use it.

Cheers.

For a while I used a different gmail account with each phone. Now I just use my main account with all my phones and my tablet. It seems to work fine.

My main phone has two gmail accounts on it....but the first one you login with is the main one by default associated with the phone.

For any other email address from another provider I would have to use some other email app or forward the mail to a gmail account.

I'm not sure how Google Apps mail account work. There have been some limitations in the past.

congrats on the move there Scott.
I am soon to be completely Android after selling my Ipad.
As I got a Transformer Prime yesterday.
Setting up various email gmail accounts is certainly easy
