Ah, so that's what this is about? I saw the ads on TV but had no idea what they were referring to.

Odd marketing campaign, IMHO.

Press release was dated 17 April, the above screenshot tonight was the first I knew of it.

My first thought was disgruntled (ex) employee.

I wonder whether this'll trigger another round of "my kid must have been messing with my phone" helpdesk calls like the last one did. I shudder to think how much time is wasted by this sort of stunt.

Also potentially a bit confusing for travellers arriving in NZ looking to roam on the One network, and not currently being able to find it by it's name if they have to resort to a manual search or get confused if their phone locks on to what looks like an unknown network name.

This meddling with the network name is like what happened when the Vodafone network name as displayed on devices slowly truncated over several days from Vodafone to dafone to fone and then finally to One when they rebranded a few years ago.

I saw this Monday or was it yesterday, and immediately wondered if my phone had connected to a mobile provider that it should not have. Wasted some time doing some basic DD to ensure that wasn't the case.

I'm sure they have their reasons, however I think it's dumb.

My first thought when I saw this monday was that someone was "testing" in prod. Changing One to Two sounds like something that could easily be an inside joke that went wrong.

I'm sure there has been numerous support calls to both One NZ and 2 Degrees from One NZ customers thinking something is broken though. Not everyone will find the press release easily etc.

Renaming network ID seems to be a One NZ gimmick as I don't recall the other telcos ever doing this. Spark may have done so once?

Edit: I think its extra "silly" that they used something so similar to the name of another telco.

Why not just call it The Dunny Network since that’s what it actually is. First name that popped into my head seeing the photo. Twos is just the bodily function related to said dunny.

I remember back in the day when you could change things to say what you wanted. I think that must've been back in the GPRS days.

I remember people hacking Telecom XT logos in there in the early iPhone days (before Telecom was an official provider).
