I think my radial crimp tool was well above $100, that was a while ago but still..

They probably are worth the investment. I've done this a few times and each time I think, oh it's just one run of cable, it's not worth the investment to get the right tools, I'll just get the screw on connectors, then spend at least 20 minutes effing and jeffing at stripping too much cable by hand or the screw on connectors not threading right, and vowing the next time I'll actually buy the proper tools. Rinse and repeat.

When I did my last tv re-wiring I brought some of the orange sky compression connectors from from Mastertrade/Corey's/whatever it is now but they didn't have the compression tool in stock so I went across the road to Jaycar.
The orange compression connectors ended up being too long for the jaycar tool, so I had to modify it and squeeze very carefully else it would split the connector (guess how I know).

Not all compression connectors/ tools are directly compatible.

I'm one of the ones that umms an ahhs over buying the right tool, buys the most expensive tool I can get, has buyers remorse, has it again when the credit card bill arrives, but then revels in the enjoyment of having the right tool for the job.

I made the mistake of buying the tool that fits the sky ones, but then buying the shorter foxtel version they sell at Jaycar. Still works but they only crip in one area rather than two...if that makes sense.

After seeing the dodgy job they did on my house (before we bought it), I wouldn't let a Sky tech on the property. My wife's cousin rebuilt their house, and I arranged for my trusted local TV antenna guy to install the UHF and sky dish on their roof - cost a bit more than getting Sky to do it, but he did a great job.

If you want to DIY, get a compression crimper (I have this one and use these F connectors) - so much better than a radial crimp.

You're right, BUT you don't get to choose the installer usually, and you won't know if they're good or bad until it's done.

I wouldn't let them touch my place either.
