Ok,

I'm looking at cancelling my Sky connection because I might be lucky to watch it 5 hours a week given that most of what I'm watching I can do online. I know I have a cancellation fee because it is under 12 months however the cancellation calculator page doesn't seem to make any sense:

https://skytv.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/299/kw/Early%20Termination%20Fees

According to that I'd owe them $376 which seem bizarre given that if I cancelled it after only having them for two months I would only owe them $125. I would have thought that the closer you are to the end of your contract the lower the cancellation fee. Is that website incorrect or is this Sky's strange mathematics?

It's either bizarre or it's a count down calculator i.e. months remaining not months since contract began.

You've got it backward - with two months left you'd owe them $125, with 8 months left you'd owe them $376 (assuming HD sky). As far as I can tell you'd be just as well off to downgrade to basic sky, it's about the same price as the cancellation fee.

I don't even have a TV aerial, let along cable TV. Too much crap on with too many ads.

Technically it's Sky that has it backward; the documentation states to select the month you're on, not the number of months remaining.

or downgrade to "broadcast only" option - $18.70/month for FTA channels.
