Just got a letter from Sky saying they're raising prices.  Should be about $1.20 extra a month (same as Telecom, really).

Anyone else notice that Sky only seems to raise the price when Telecom does?

Agreed, Sky 'again' have raised prices to pay for the channels that are not profitable to them, quite annoying that we all pay for the content that we don't want!!

I'm not hugely concerned about the rise - it does annoy me that in exchange for rising prices, we get... more channels for unemployed and housewives. Travel Channel (don't care). 6 channels of Commonwealth Games (don't care). Heartland might be interesting - I'll reserve judgement on that. When are we going to get channels like SciFi?

Telecom rises prices again?
Sky rises prices again?

Dont they raise them once per year as a CPI increase? If its CPI thats fair, unlike power companies who seem to have a 10% mentality

I can't see the point of starting a thread complaining over a price rise for something that is a Luxury. Vote with your wallet if is causing financial hardship. The % rise is even miles below the annual inflation rate that is associated with the CPI.

I don't get annual wage increases anyway.  We've been told for the last few years that the organisation can't afford it - yet they spend millions on completely unnecessary projects.  So don't talk to me about CPI wage increases.

Just like Telecom

and the beauty of it all is that both are being greedy

Their costs have not increased, even though they cite inflation

To elaborate; for them to be affected by inflation, they would need to be paying higher wages and higher fuel costs.

Well we know that they are not paying higher wages!

Most of their "on site" work is done by contractors so fuel costs do not come into it

Nope, both are just price gouging

The really disgusting thing, of course, is that these monopolistic companies, feel that, in these recessionary times, they are entitled to a pay increase at a time when all the rest of us are having our "real incomes" reduced.

Don't bother writing to your MP, those boys are in the same club as the these two monsters!

Surely you understand their cost are not only wages and petrol? Telecom for example has new networks to deploy, cabinets to install, fiber to roll out, maintenance of existing equipment, software updates to their existing hardware, increased working hours due to XT problems, etc.

I am sure you are not taking a simplistic view on this... Oh wait, you are.

IMHO that's a very narrow and extremely simplistic view of the entire company.

Telecom's capex along in the current year is well over $1 billion. They're deploying faster broadband to everybody and very soon commencing rollout a NGN voice solutions delivering a VoIP based phoneline as a replacement for the existing NEAX switches. Are you saying Telecom should not be doing any of this?

If you want to target anybody then target the Commerce Commisson - they are the ones who legistate the TSO which allows this to happen.
