Hi all,

All the phone specs seem 2b changing to sa "640 x 480 resolution" that tells me what size the image is but not what quality. Why have they dropped the pixels rating.
For example the tx115c has a 640 x 480 rating but it is only a .310K pixel phone so if you want to down load and print a pic at a std 6" x 4" size it will be no good.

The Kyocera koi is 1,000,000 (1+ megapixel) at 1280 x 960 pixels so it will do the above. I'm getting confused are the resolution and pixels inter mixed are all 640x480 phones .310K and higher resolutions mean higher pixels

I'm waiting for the new Sanyo 7400 which is rated the same at 640x480 does that mean it will only be .300K odd pixels. I had some inside info thet it would be a 1 megapixel camera phone but I can't find the Pixel rating on the net only the resolution.

Both measurments are infact the same. 640*480 = 307200, or approx 310000 which is 310K. 1280*960 = 1228800 or approx 1200000 which is 1.2 mega pixel.
Hence if the camera on the Sanyo 7400 only takes photos up to a maximum of 640 x 480 pixels then sadly it looks like it will not infact be a mega-pixel capable phone.

Damn that means there is still no megapixel clamshell or even std shape on the horizon from Telecom.

The koi has all the features but with that funny looking hinge and especially the srceen exposed to all sorts of day to day scratchs and damage it is not an option.

Still a pretty poor selection to choose from. Wonder how much the Hyundai 120c would be to get from overseas.

Not sure about cost to buy it but to set it up on telecoms network would be impossible sorry.
Would be an ideal phone to have though

This is purely my opinion, but, I don't think even one megapixel phone handsets are realistically capable of producing a decent 6 x 4 pic. One megapixel is still very low resolution by modern standards, and phone handsets generally don't have half decent lenses, flashes, or tweaking features.

The day will come when you can throw away your digital camera in favour of a camera phone. However, for now, I intend to stick with a basic camera phone and keep using my digital camera when I need decent printable pics.

You could well be correct alasta.

Without getting a phone and giving it a go we cannot know. I just thought it would be handy that is all. For that "moment" when you haven't got time to go back to the car or the camera is at home or for that pic with more detail you need to send to the engineer or real estate agent. Your phone is always there your camera is not.

I called Vodaphone and they have the Sharp gx30i coming in soon has all the features, they have a similar thing to quick chat and a plan that is also similar to the telecom one I want. But not a lot to choose from either and to much hassle to get my stationary reprinted.

Alasta's comment hit home and I think my expectation may have been a bit high. You go on the net and see whats available and expect to be able to get it. I think I'll wait for the 7400(wich still has heaps of features), tirm my spec to the 310k camera.

Great dicussion, great input

I personally think it would be better to go for a phone with .3 mp and good features and use the extra money u'd b spending on a megapixal phone on a 3 mp digital camara. U'd still be amused with a camara phone...

I've read several reviews for the 7400 and they all recken that the screen looks good
