Has anyone noticed any recording errors with their TiVo?

I have had the following happen to me.

    * Last night 7days was incorrectly recorded. I got the end half of Jackie Brown and only half of 7days. I have a season pass set-up and it worked fine last week.
    * I have a show appearing in my play list that isn't due to be recorded until tomorrow. I know tiVo is good but I'm sure there is no time machine function. When you try to play it it just goes straight to the end and asks if you want to delete this recording.
    * I have had a recorded show just disappear from its group. Looked for it is the deleted folder but wasn't there either although plenty of older deleted show were. BTW - it wasn't deleted just looked for it thee incase somebody else had deleted it. It is no where to be found.

Anybody else experienced anything simliar?

Thanks that makes sense as I recall seeing Rove make his final goodbyes.

I wonder if the other errors are because of the EPG.

I am finding that it wants to record 3 news at midday and 6pm, I only want the 6pm and can see no way to tell it to only record the one I want

Is it auto recording TiVo suggestions based on your season pass recordings? Haven't got that far yet.

No, it is because they both have the same name '3 News' 'not '3 Midday news' or the like

So Season pass will record anything with the same name, even if it's a rerun and you only want the current? Like what they did with Fringe the week after it aired...

it's the same thing with MySky. With MySky there is no control over the season link. I'd love there to be the same sort of function as GB-PVR, where you can 'smart' series link (narrow it down to a day, time slot etc)

Tonight it recorded NCIS on TV3+1 (not HD no Dolby Digital) instead of on real TV3, it did this at the same time as CSI Miami was on despite not recording anything the previous hour???

All I can think is that when it is recording programs in a row on the same channel Wipeout, NCIS, CSI (in this case) it can not get an overlap by using both tuners at the same time or using one tuner to record the same progam twice at the same time.

I might have to delete TV3+1 from my channel list as I dnt really want it to do this

There is a setting in the season pass to only record 'first run' programs that should fix this. I notice with 'How I met your Mother', which is on first Tuesday night then repeated Saturday night it only records it once. It does produce a list of all the programs it decides not to record and why also.

With a Freeview certified PVR it uses unique show identifiers to ensure that this sort of thing doesn't happen. Presumably Tivo are doing their show linking manually, if so it's something they really need to work on.

GB-PVR has a cool feature that allows you to record a show with a "season pass" style feature but only in a similair timeslot. This avoids the double ups that occur with 3News for example that does share the same show name.

To only record the news at night setup a manual recording with a daily repeat.  When setting up the recording set it to start at 6pm but then use the recording options to start it a minute or 2 early.  This way it will show up in the play list as "manual recording 3 news".  If you set the recording to start at 5:55 the recording will have what ever is on from 5:30 - 6:00 as the name.

Tivo has missed a recording for me before.  The reason for this was that I had 2 recordings scheduled for the same time but then turned on tivo and changed channel to watch live tv i.e. I was trying to watch 3 channels with 2 tuners.  Luckily it was on tv3 so I watched the missed show on tv3+1.  There was no warning pop-up saying I was going to missing a recording.

I have also had a show in deleted items that I could not delete permanently.  I had to recover the show and then delete it again.  I could then permanently delete it.

if you only want the latest news you could try the "Keep at most = 1" setting. It will delete itself every time the "new" news comes on.

Don't forget to use your Season Pass Manager to priorities shows. This feature is key, particularly when shows overlap. Items which appear higher on the list will have greater preference and TiVo will therefore record the entire program whereas a lower priority show will be cut if required.

Press the main TiVo button at the top of your remote, then select 'Find Programs'. Select 'Session Pass Manager' from the list (going from memory here).
