I registered Diary.nz the other day.

I was looking for a place on the net to "shoot the breeze" about ideas and how to develop the site. I couldn't really find anywhere. I wasn't going to post here as sometimes the "chat" can be a bit intense.

Anyway...

Lets see. What would you do with the site?

Can you recommend a more, "water cooler" environment to discuss this site?

No offense, but I really don't get people who register domains, then afterwards ask what to do with it.......

Wouldn't have shootthebreeze.nz been a better purchase ? :)

domain_name: shootthebreeze.nz
query_status: 220 Available

Have you purchased it for an investment? The word Diary is 20th century. Wouldn't the more modern word for something like that be blog. But I don't see how the word diary relates to a place for discussion. Watercooler may have been a better domain.

No investment

I dont think it would be a good name for a discussion site for that water-cooler or some deviation would be better I agree

I am thinking more along these lines diary.com

I like the diary idea. Does everything always have to be so damned up to date, trendy, now, hip, comprehensible to any random group of kids who happen to be passing by? Diaries have a long and noble tradition. And no, they are not the same as dairies.

I guess it depends what you want to achieve with the project. Do you want to make money on it or simply provide users with a free service/place to collect and write down their thoughts?

I would search for existing Wordpress themes or scripts that are designed for this kind of idea. You could technically allow users to create their own subdomain under diary.nz, eg. daniel.diary.nz and let them have their own little personal blog there. The later depends on how much time and effort you are willing to invest into this project.

I would use it as a diary! Chronicle your daily routines, your gradual aging and the slow, steady decline towards a hopefully not-too-gruesome death!

Register it out for the next 5000 years so that future generations can use it as a study, never sure if it was an art project or an actual serious attempt at something, anything, what-is-life-what-is-death introspection.

That's what I'd do.

Nice domain! This sounds like a big commitment though. Unless you are very passionate about writing, this could be a time consuming project. If you got the technical knowledge and willing to invest your time for a very long time, why not :D
