This topic reminds me of most stuff I read about heatpumps / ventilation - I'm lucky if I understand 10% of it, and if its even that high, I would have no idea if I'm being told rubbish by people selling it to me...

With 2 inverters in most of these setups that will typically provide 4 MPPT to work with (occasionally six), effectively each MPPT allows a different orientation for the associated panels. So for a good design there should be enough MPPT or more than the number of orientations they've proposed for the panels (both direction and angle combined).

 

Yes, my main concern would be that four panels is a very small number. This raises issues with hitting enough voltage to start the inverter/MPPT at low light (4 panels 100V ish full load, many inverters only start at 70-90V). It also means that all the rest of the PV for that inverter is on the other MPPT input. It looks like this is less of an issue with the 5kW class Fronius; with other or larger inverters you generally cannot achieve full power without using all MPPT inputs at substantial load. A 60-40 split is feasible; 80-20 often is not. It would be interesting to see what the proposed string layout was.
