why don't just mulch the grass?
Because then I'd have to buy compost for the garden!
I was also looking at that EGO lawn mower at first, but when I looked at it in person, it looked pretty big and heavy. The catcher wasn't a solid plastic one, it was a cloth flip-flop one which I didn't know how well it would work.
My current Morrison one's pulley string snapped, so for a temporary fix I literally tied a shoe lace onto the existing one. While it sorta works, it's now a pain in the ass to pull it every time. I also probably need to change the oil in it as black smoke sometimes starts coming out upon starting. It's almost easier to pay someone else to mow the lawn for you, or just concrete the area. I must say, I'm not a big fan of grass and having to mow it all the time!

Hmmmm, Will there be beer?
But I still think it just won't be the same if not my own lawn....
:-)
Tip: Have the beer after the lawn, not a couple before.... Motivation decreases exponentially!

i thought the idea of mulch is just to leave them as it is??
Doesn't just mulching it make the grass brown after a couple of days?
I used to poor mans mulch. Mow lawn and allow the clippings to shoot out left side, then on the next lap, mow them over. You cant tell its been done, except in the middle where there is a strip, or if I cut too much off, or if it was not really dry enough. I just bought a Masport President AL6000, so it will be genuine mulch from now on, and a 21 cut, yay. 198cc too. Best part is it overcuts the wheels both sides, marginally on the right, a good way on the left, will be great for my horseshoe shaped rear lawn, no need for a mowing border

Yep. My $2 chinese mower has a side throw shute wich is fantastic for heavy wet grass. I mow a spiral out from the centre of the lawn constantly pushing the clippings outwards. I'm not sure having all that matter settling into the grass is actually good for the grass health though. Most golf courses spend $$$ regularly de-thatching to get rid of organic material in the soil and replace with sand so you get more air and better drainage around the grass roots.

My old mower, Mitre 10 Vinaro, doesn't have a side shute, so invariably, the 18" would after overlap be 12" cut as it was not great at expelling it, had to tie up the rear door.
Grass decomposes quite quick, especially if its cut up further. Thatch is dead grass that isn't decomposing, often due to to poor a watering regime, so the roots stay shallow. low moisture means low micro organisms, so you end up with dried plants, literally. If you mulch mowed a lot, it can build up, but unless you are in the tropics it shouldn't matter much here. Ive done it for years, easy to get to topsoil. I read that in a month the grass has decomposed and releasing nutrients, so from then on its a continual steady feed.
I had some thatch here, new build 2011. Sprinklers sunk so after scratching my head why the grass is thin and crap. Felt it must be water when first owners lost interest . So I drenched it, then big waters last summer when needed. Overseeded as well, but before that could take effect the grass picked up a lot, its good now. That thatch was rooted in. I mow almost always with no catcher as I mentioned, no loose stuff, no buildup.
New mower hasn't been used yet, might get UV damage... or dirt on it....Like any new car/bike
I did part time mowing for several years, and have used all manner of petrol lawnmowers. Many commercal guys like the Castlegarden Testarossa, I had one with a Honda Engine.
They are light weight ABS with a fan to push the grass into a decent sized catcher, and cut and catch wet grass well. They fade and break if stones or other debris in your lawn.
You should mow long grass on a high height setting, and then mower again lower.
Some modern Briggs and Straton engines have a plastic carburettor and these seem to cause problems.
For my lawnmower I have fitted a Masport 58 volt motor kit to my existing mower with aluminium chassis, and large fabric catcher.
The kit included charger, mounting bolts, blade driver, disk and two blades. It was reasonably simple to change over.
The new electric power head in more compact and lighter than petrol engine, although it is plastic outer covers.
I charge from an inverter from 12v batteries and solar pannel.

I have a small lawn in Mt Roskill you can mow any time that the feeling grabs you.

Very kind of you. As per above I have motivation/reward issues where it's not my own lawn though.
These negatives possibly can be suppressed by crisp cold post-mow beer.
Have been a bit frustrated for the last few months as the grass has been too soggy to mow. Drying out now but the so-called lawn is such a mess I am considering razing it with glyphosate and starting over. Planning to put the place on the market so may have to cheat and get either a ready-lawn or hydro-seeding done so it will be ready in time.
