Experimenting with PIA (Private Internet Access) VPN st to Turkiye ... when I go to YouTube premium page it says it can't determine my country. It would appear they are onto this trick?

No problems with that here, have tried India (country I had originally used to subscribe) and also Turkey.
Get the correct prices / currency but Google just won't accept any payment as it says it needs a payment method from the billing country.
I've set the payment profile to the appropriate country and the Wise card in the Payment Profile also has an address in the appropriate country.
This is the exact error I get:
Transaction declined. This purchase requires a payment method from your billing country. [OR_RECR_05]

I recently switched from India($3nz/m) after almost 3yrs to Vietnam($5.5nz/m) using a free VPN trial (only for setup) & Wisecard with no issues. The reason being someone on reddit(?) complained about their account being frozen once YT found out I was worried about having my main account being purged so I'd suggest creating a 2nd account to signup with just in case.

My Wise card stopped working with my India account but Revolut worked (for now).
stick: Also why don't people just sign up for a year? It removes the worry of payments failing for an entire year and saves more money
Family accounts are month by month only

CYaBro: I just created a new Google account and tried purchasing the family plan but same issue.
Everything was done via vpn.
My understanding and there's a thread on it in either the Aussie Whirlpool forum or at OZ Bargain saying that doing it this with the Family plan almost always fails, but the single plan generally worked. I've got a year long single sub using this Indian method for $26 p.a

From what I've read elsewhere it can be a bit hit and miss. You need to try different VPN providers, some work and some don't. And eventually you may have to choose a different country. I settle on the Philippines as it was the next cheapest after Turkey and India (Argentina had a crack down on overseas Visa cards).
I've cancelled and requested a refund from PrivateInternetAccess VPN... Google complained about not being able to determine my country...
So youtube have just announced they are axing the "Premium Lite" subscription, what a bunch of mother fire truckers.
Was happy to pay the $7 a month or so for no ads, but no way is youtube premium or family premium worth it to skip ads. Tried setting up through turkey earlier, but ran into issues around payment so gave up. Watch via android TV app or on appleTV. I assume there aren't ad blockers for those devices / apps that would work?
They basically want everyone to pay or watch 'tv' amount of ads now. Each to their own
The thing that bugs me now is that sure the start / middle ads are now gone but the creators of content are now sticking them in the videos some as long as 2 or 3 minutes on a 10 minute clip.
Youtube really needs to kick this in the butt now.

well, crap. Add me to the list of people who had never heard of Premium Lite but want exactly that. I don't use Youtube Music or offline downloads.
I'm using GAMS Go for my disney subscription and it works fine.
Youtube Premium is $25 USD per year per user. (this is sharing a family account) I'd be keen to know if anyone in NZ is using it.
