According to this article on The New York Times:

- About 36% of US households subscribe to Netflix
- Amazon Prime: 13%
- Hulu Plus: 6.5%

"About a third of households subscribe to just one streaming video service. About 10 percent subscribe to two and only 2.6 percent subscribe to three, the report showed."

We are in the 2.6% here at home then...

I refuse to give hulu any cash with them showing so many ad's on it still when paying for plus. So I am in the 10 percent.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm  yes i just restarted my Hulu sub yesterday , now i remember why i stopped it in the first place  damn adverts , not quite as bad as Sky TV used to be though

Interesting! We just subscribe to Netflix but the whole point of cancelling Sky was to minimise cost, and at the moment we're on one income so will make do with one service.

currently we are in the 0% as we have not found one that is worth subscribing to yet. Lightbox is promising but we don't want to have to subscribe the beam from one device to another to watch it, we want to be able to pick it up on our TV or Xbox One and watch .

Netflix, Hulu and a seedbox for stuff thats not available on either. Will also try for HBO Now when it comes out probably.

I find the ads on Hulu Plus hysterical, especially the ones for medicines where they try to sell it to you, then spend a minute detailing a list of terrifying potential side-effects.

I'm in the 2-service group right now, but that's because my Lightbox sub is free at the moment. I am considering NowTV in the UK as a third option, but will see how I go once I give my Sky decoder back. I suspect I won't need it, as iPlayer, 4oD and TVNZ On Demand plus Netflix and Hulu Plus should have me nicely covered. 

I'm assuming in those figures from the US, most of those people would also have a cable subscription of some sort?

So of the people who use video streaming, roughly 1 in 3 of them (10 our of 33) have 2 or more services.  That's quite a decent chunk.

and the vast majority of those will ALSO take cable TV subscriptions which often come with their own on-demand type services - e.g. Xfinity, which don't seem to be counted in this survey

It would be interesting to see the uptake of streaming video services specifically for customers who have 'cut the cord' i.e. don't pay for Cable TV subscription.  Do they only take one streaming service? or more?

Saving money by avoiding cable TV means you can afford to easily take 2 or more streaming services.

Well I am a 2.6%er Netflix ,Hulu Plus, Amazon , Vudu I even got Aereo working when it existed :)

I get where you're coming from. We're a bit more pragmatic than that, and enjoy a lot of what Hulu has to offer. Personally I don't find the ads too intrusive or lengthy. I'm also frequently amused by the ads for pharmaceutical products which are 25% product benefits and 75% warnings about side effects.

So yeah, mark us down in the 2.6% column too :-)

I'm at the  2.6% too, soon to be 10% if amazon doesn't improve the selection and makes the streaming smoother. at present mine buffers and loads a lot in the middle of a show.

most American ads are so full of...excrement, it can almost pass as satire, or a sketchy while I'm watching key and peele or SNL. lol

I wouldn't blame Amazon straight away. I have no such problems - in your case it could be your provider, your VPN/DNS, your router, using WiFi instead of ethernet, your device, etc, etc...

I haven't subscribed to anything, I dont think my internet would be fast enough. Even watching videos on NZHerald or Stuff can be a bit jittery.

I wouldn't necessarily use those as a yardstick for performance. Many media outlets use suboptimal video delivery systems.

I dunno, I use, amazon fire tv, Roku, my phone, my PS3 and my PS4 to stream and my experience has been consistent with all devices for all three services if I am at my flat ( which has adsl through slingshot) or at home ( which has ufb through orcon). It can be a bit annoying when midway through a dialogue, amazon would stop and load a bit more of the show at least the ads in hulu appear at specific points where ads can be placed.
