Listening to some of the complex questions being asked by media  at present I get the feeling there are things being leaked that they're wanting Bloomfield to publicly answer, he's getting a bit grumpy with some of the questioning.

Things are definitely being leaked to the media
those last 2 community cases were leaked well before any official announcement .

Have to wonder whats going on, when those working in this field need to resort to going to the media .

Call me sceptical too. Why would someone go directly from MIQ in New Zealand to Australia?

Maybe because they are NZ citizens normally resident in Australia, who couldn't get (or weren't entitled to) a place in Australian MIQ, so they did a little country-hopping.

They could get a place here, so they came here and did their required 14 days MIQ, then as soon as they were out, went to Australia.

Or attempting to bypass the # restrictions direct inbound to Australia as Handle Points out. But it would take some big contingency cost reserves to cover the unknowns. Additional accommodation if the border was closed out (like now) or required additional 2 weeks on arrival. The cost of not being 'home' for the 2+ weeks. The potential to miss slots. The apparently capacity pre-booked slots not meeting the same timeframe 'green' travel

In my books all way too fluid to risk

The question is starting to be raised in light of it. One Australian based NZ epidemiologist (yeah, there seems to be a lot of them all of a sudden..) on radio this AM mooted the idea I pegged on, with visa validation hopping. He didn't see it as much of a concern to the Australian side assuming the 14 days was done here since our own risks were low. (basically nullifying their end arrival risk) But it seems it does shift the initial risk to us if from overseas ports of origin. And potentially occupies a slot in MIQ that could have been better served.

@duckDecoy - Possibly just not removed from an old schedule.

Ponant Cruises suspended its entire fleet's passenger shipping operations (all vessels, including MS Paul Gauguin) by cancelling all voyages with pre-scheduled departures in the period March 15, 2020, through early-April, 2021. Operations were planned to restart on October 27, 2020 (Mediterranean) but instead were offered French coastal mini-cruises on select ships only. All affected bookings were fully refunded in FCC (future cruise credit), including on prepurchased packages and services.

Next are listed all Ponant ships, their scheduled first departure dates (in 2021) and operational regions.

  • Le Dumont D'Urville (April 1) Caribbean-Europe-Baltic
  • Le Lyrial (April 5) South Africa-Europe-Mediterranean-Antarctica
  • Le Soleal (April 7) Tahiti-French Polynesia
  • L'Austral (April 7) Europe-UK-Svalbard Norway
  • Le Laperouse (April 7) Asia-Japan
  • Le Bellot (April 18) Kimberley Australia
  • Le Champlain (May 11) Europe-Baltic-Iceland-Greenland
  • Le Boreal (May 12) UK-Norway
  • Le Bougainville (June 7) Europe-Mediterranean
  • Le Jacques Cartier (August 4) Iceland
  • Ponant's brand Paul Gauguin Cruises planned for March 15 through December 18, 2020, were cancelled and rescheduled to restart on March 12, 2021.

According to Cruismapper, this vessel is indeed coming to NZ and is nearly here.

Something to do with the Americas Cup?

Nope. Probably not.

Yeah, things aren't stacking up with the companies statements. Still trying to figure it out.

There is a possibility. The dates in March for the POA schedule are amongst race days.

Jumped the gun. But it was approved..

https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/travel/2021/01/le-laperouse-cruise-of-new-zealand-to-set-sail-in-march.html

Perhaps mooring for 2 weeks in the hope of negative on arrival.

@duckDecoy, @BlinkyBill, @Buster

'yoiks' could be right duckDecoy.

Ponant Cruises has been given permission to operate in New Zealand with the Le Laperouse ship, and voyages with New Zealand-based guests will get underway in February.

UK has banned travel from the UAE resulting in Emirates suspending it's flights both ways.  That's going to make it tricky for a few kiwis coming home....
