Tinkerisk:

Actual INTERNATIONAL numbers released by a reputated German virologist concerning mortability: (by the way, he states that Germany will NOT be an outliner)

80+: 20~25%

70~80: 7~8%

60~70: 3%

50~60: 1~1.5%

<50: 0.4%

younger: 0.2%

Infection peak expected in Jun~Aug (valid for Germany)

Advise is to keep the children away from grandpa and grandma and better to support them instead in a protectional way.

Do you have a link or reference for this? I can read German if necessary.

tdgeek: I feel the most of us realise that isolation works

Isolation spreads the infections over time, it doesn't prevent infections, and it only works for individuals and not an entire country...

Question: imagine we all isolate ourselves for a month, shutdown all industry. That would definitely slow down new infections. What is the next step?

Remain in shutdown for longer?

Pray for a cure?

Go back to work until infection rates hit the roof again?

I feel that everyone thinks 2 weeks isolation for everyone and then we'll be fine! Nope.

What is your point? You criticise isolation as 2 weeks won't work, and long term wont work, what next etc.

What is your suggestion? To stem the virus, i.e. contain it

Sure. It was in a Pod- and Broadcast but I found it referenced in a written form HERE.

On a lighter note - well probably not, but anyway:

A coronavirus conference in NY has been cancelled due to coronavirus.

Geektastic: It’s a factor of a system where sick leave is defined in days rather than something you take when sick until the illness passes.

Yeah, but it's obvious why you need that, a certain percentage of people are going to take sickies all year long unless you set a hard limit. So you need some sort of limit between "have as many paid days off as you like" and "no sick leave, ever".

There are several fairly large economies in Europe that take a different line. My last contract there worked like this:

Up to 5 days - self certify

Over 5 days - Doctor’s certificate required

Limit with Doctor’s certificate: 6 months full pay, 6 months half pay.

Employer has right to seek medical assessment at own expense if they think you’re making it up.

Everyone's a Coronavirus Expert

Jimmy Kimmel Live

Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden battled it out for 'Super Tuesday 2,' Trump has officially not been tested for Coronavirus, the CDC released a special warning about Senator Ted Cruz putting himself under quarantine, 'Wheel of Fortune' & 'Jeopardy' plan to tape without a studio audience, Jimmy's #ELBUMP is catching on across the globe, and since knowledge is power we took to the streets for people to tell us what they know about Coronavirus.

FullFact.org: This is not a vaccine for the 2019 coronavirus
10th Mar 2020

Claim: A coronavirus vaccine for cows shows that the virus behind the current outbreak is not new.

Conclusion: This is a different coronavirus from SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19. Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that can affect a range of species.

A post shared hundreds of times on Facebook claims that a vaccine for cows that treats coronavirus has been available for years and that therefore the virus is not new.

There are a number of inaccuracies here.

Has there been any plans to use the brand new (and much delayed) Acute Services Building in Christchurch as a Coronavirus containment building?  It is still in the hand over period so they would not be displacing any wards.   Seems like the perfect opportunity to keep hospitalised virus patients separate from regular patents.

Lurking here forever and surprised this has finally motivated me to post.

In the car at lunchtime listened to the first 15 min of Michael Osterholm US biosecurity/disease expert discuss Covid-19 on Joe Rogan's podcast. Makes a lot of sense and can't wait to hear the rest.

On YouTube if you don't have a podcast app. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3URhJx0NSw

I agree, thanks for posting. This video makes it clear that it's not just an "old person's" disease and that younger people need to take just as many precautions as older people.
