Angry women - stand back and gently throw chocolate.

Apparently in this PC modern age I am expected to take offence and express outrage at this ^^^ but I won't because it made me laugh!

Gently was a concession to PC.  Besides a woman told me that so it can't be wrong.

Which reminds me: If A Man Speaks In The Forest And There's No Woman To Hear Him, Is His Still Wrong

Maybe the woman is just ignoring him because she has heard it all before.

Wow - fast food has a contraceptive effect:

https://www.livescience.com/62476-fast-food-diet-infertility.html

This is of course very bad news for Maccas etc in the long term, fast food addicts will have fewer children to pass their addiction on to - and they'll die out just like catholics would if the pope allowed the use of condoms. (/s)

I haven't read the paper, just the comment in the article:

"The study adjusted for factors such as age, maternal smoking, alcohol consumption and body mass index, to make sure the data reflected only the effects of diet on infertility and time needed to conceive, Roberts noted."

It's interesting perhaps not so much for the observed correlation/impact on fertility, but if it is having that effect, then why and what the hell else is it doing to women's health?

Ge0rge:
MikeAqua: ...bacon...

Is there anything this Super-Food can't fix?

Although I recognise that as sarcasm, I don't know how deep the sarcasm is.

The list of diseases implicated with (nitrate cured = almost all) bacon consumption (and all other nitrate cured processed meats) is long, nasty reading, and possibly most disturbing in that it looks like something that should probably be avoided altogether.

At least that (bacon) is one thing that you can completely remove from your diet without too much trouble.

So should fast cars, loose women, parachuting, crossing the road, prescription drugs, other drugs, coffee, small particulate matter, cosmic rays, social media, tight underpants, peanuts, steams and rivers, hippopotami, cat dander, loud noises and bright lights.

Live Eat fast, hard and leave a nitrate preserved body.

Perhaps time to quote Anthony Bourdain:

"Your body is not a temple - it's an amusement park, enjoy the ride"

BTW, how did "loose women" get in your list?  I'm quite certain that from a medical perspective "loose men" are much more likely to reduce the duration of your trip on life's amusing roller coaster.

This is the part that nails it for me:

"The message from these studies seems to be that processed foods are bad, and fresh fruit and vegetables are good, for fertility."

A lot of the commercial fast food is nutritionally complete but more or less dead. Even stuff like pre-prepared salad ingredients sitting there oxidizing or whatever for a while can approach that category, and then you have to ask where some of that stuff comes from anyway.

It's pretty much common sense that fresh fruit and veges are good for you. I live life by the 3 fruit, 5 veges per day rule.

If I get a takeaway salad from somewhere, I chalk it up as low calories that will fill me up and have some heath benefits.

The thing about a leaf salad with a healthy dressing (for me a squeeze of lemon and cracked pepper) is you can eat as much as you want from a calorie perspective.  You will get sick of chewing through it.

Subway's salads ingredients are usually in reasonable shape.  Very cold though.  Flavour improves if you let them warm up.

I have no idea what Macca's do to their lettuce and tomato.  Both are dry and anaemic - with remarkable consistency.

Don't they put something in their hamburgers to keep them fresh for 26 years? I seem to remember seeing something about that once.

Perhaps the contraceptive they put in that reduces women's fertility has the same effect on all the little bacteria and fungal things that would breed up and devour wholesome food.
There's a conspiracy theory in this somewhere - not sure what it is - but working on it.

No.  The myth is caused by the burger drying out.  Similar to freeze drying food to preserve it.

Rikkitic -  what is your opinion on a vegetarian sausage?  Good for you because there is no meat.  Bad for you because it is more processed than a chicken nugget.

I like different forms of tofu. I have never worried much about health aspects. Anxiety is unhealthy.

I really suggest that you check what goes into a chicken nugget, IIRC the one's Maccas sells are marginally okay, if you exclude the batter, deep frying etc. According to Wikipedia they are:

White boneless chicken, water, salt, seasoning (yeast extract, salt, wheat starch, natural flavoring, safflower oil, lemon juice solids, dextrose, citric acid), sodium phosphates. Battered and breaded with water, enriched flour (bleached wheat flour, niacin, reduced iron, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid), yellow corn flour, bleached wheat flour, salt, leavening (baking soda, sodium acid pyrophosphate, sodium aluminum phosphate, monocalcium phosphate, calcium lactate), spices, wheat starch, dextrose, corn starch. Prepared in vegetable oil (canola oil, corn oil, soybean oil, hydrogenated soybean oil) with citric acid as a preservative.

This is food for kids of course, fed to kids by people who might read a food label and decide that they'll be bad for their cat.

The frozen ones sold in big bags cheap at the supermarket are probably worse, they don't even have anything which could be honestly described as "white boneless chicken", but instead scraps of flesh salvaged from slime, reconstituted and shaped to look appealing to innocent children.

I've got a pack of vegetarian sausages in the fridge here - and nope - processed of course, but incomparable to the above.
