They had been working on a vaccine for a particular bronchitis virus that affects poultry for years before the COVID-19 outbreak started. When the COVID-19 genome was sequenced, they noticed it was very similar to that belonging to the disease they were already working on.

Which suggests that perhaps covid-19's source was poultry, not bats.

Or [tinfoil hat] Mossad [/tinfoil].

Reminder of streamed 1pm update. (this happens daily from MoH on most tv/online news break

And radio is expecting a media release responce to the money set aside this morning for our carrier.

And many council owned public features appear to be closing shop.

Auckland council facilities closing (libraries, office, etc) for next two weeks starting end of today. Auckland zoo will stay open though

That's what we are doing here, haevy emphasis on contact tracing.

I'd suggest we aren't doing it anywhere near as well as Singapore. We just don't have the government control, nor ubiquitous CCTV. From the article, it appears that they are also tracing people's movements via credit card transactions, which here would require a warrant, I assume.

Now here's how to maintain public confidence in your business during these troubled times (now 39 confirmed cases in NZ and 11 in the last 24 hours).

Here's what a small computer repair firm is saying to its customers. I've taken out the name of the firm for the purposes of this post. What do you think of this way of dealing with COVID-19?

We are in troubled times and no one really knows how bad it is going to get. Hopefully, this email finds you well and fighting fit.What does COVID-19 mean to us at **** and how we work with you. No one at **** has been overseas, so we are starting from a clean bill of health beyond the normal aches and pains of getting old.
There are 2 factors we need be prepared for to do our bit in minimising the spread of the virus.
1. Stop **** staff from getting infected and then passing it on.
2. Stop the spread of the virus from one computer to another and on to the next person
Thinking about this, I concluded that people who are self-isolated (and possibly ill with the virus) will most likely be using their computers, which quite possibly will end up here at **** for repair, making it very likely the computers have the virus on them. Also there is possible transmission of the virus person to person when they come in the shop
We will continue to operate our business, implementing the following measures. If we have to close, then we will do so, but I hope that does not happen. Doing the following things will minimise the need to close.
• We have implemented the recommended sanitary guidelines in terms of washing hands etc
• Customers are asked to respect the guidelines in terms of keeping physical distance so as to minimise likelihood of transmission from person to person
• We have hand sanitiser and wipes at the counter so people can sanitise after using eftpos etc and we will be sanitising the counter surfaces and eftpos etc after each customer's use
• When computers are brought in, we will sanitise the computer before they are moved through to our workshop.
• We will be using sanitiser when we move between computers as work, as well as thorough hand washing through the day.
• When a computer is finished, we will sanitise the outside of the computer again, just in case
Please, if you are ill and your computer needs to be brought in, get someone to bring it in for you and let us know so we can be extra vigilant about santising. Nothing worse than being stuck at home and unable to use your computer :-)
I am still getting my head around the enormity of the challenge ahead of us all. This is about survival of people, as well as our business. So please, I ask that you keep coming in as we do need your support, as a business, to stay in business. In return we are doing everything we can to protect you as our customer.
I will send out another update in the future as things evolve.

True, this is just NZ. But we are using the best method. Others gave up. Again 11 more, all inwards travel, health system is fine. No CT

Unrelated to the spike in travel? They are all travel related, so they arent actually exponential. They are based on infection rate overseas and travel of that to NZ.

Yes - but at this stage don't look at increase in detection of "imported" cases in the same way as similar day by day exponential increase in cases from local transmission elsewhere. We may still be able to avoid what's happened elsewhere.
