Yep. Interesting to see how many retain mask usage, I probably will at the supermarket. And if any mask wearers get finger pointed by non mask wearers. Hope not

I've already worked out the mic drop

'My entire household is currently sick, under the new rules I'm allowed out but I can remove and possibly share it if you like?"

Essentially back to square one of educating people it's about the out not the in so much

Just go with the other good spin on the old anti-mask BS:

"Are you suggesting I should just let the government tell me what to do?"

Honestly it's great, you can take any of the anti-mask stuff and now spin it for your own use.

Kyanar:

Unfortunately looking at the Traveller Declaration site, it doesn't appear that's going away - though the testing requirement is.

its now pretty much collecting exactly what is also being collected on the Arrival card..... So I'm guessing there are some bureaucratic wheels to turn before they decide which one of the two will become the only one, but until then both will be required...

Also of interest is that the renewal of the underlying health Order that allows any restrictions to continue was only done for 35 days, not the regular 90 days,  So it will need to be either dumped of extended on 20 October ....

I'm guessing the travel declaration could get dumped then, ( just before the summer season cranks up)

It hasn't gone away. I am currently sitting at home feeling absolutely awful. Since the beginning of June I have gone Covid, Flu and now Covid again. I have not required hospital treatment but each successive illness is taking longer and longer to recover from. The effects are just debilitating.

Without trying to seem melodramatic, the quality of my life is not good with perpetual tiredness. I am, was, a relatively fit 67 year old, vaccinated, boosted, perpetual mask wearer even in the office where mandates had been dropped or slid sideways.

I had planned on working for another few years as it was always a pleasure and a challenge in a nice way to head over the hill and see what the day would bring. But now I am seriously reconsidering my options going forward.

I have noticed a decline in mask wearing in Wellington which was probably the most compliant city in NZ so is it worth the risk to my health to continue to work? Probably not.

Co-workers have also tested positive this morning even those who have sauntered around the world looking invulnerable in the last few months. I suspect we are now in the position where it will become a long term age biased disease which will gradually raise the death rate such that those "excess" deaths become the new normal as restrictions effectively no longer exist

A pretty depressing take from me but that's my perspective

Ge0rge: The Wairarapa train has been very compliant with mask wearing, only one or two people not. Today, it's only one or two who are - the change is quite stark.

Reinforces my skepticism about humans. A lot of them do what they are told they have to do, without thinking too hard about it.

Countdown as a whole have opted for recommended it would seem.

It felt odd walking in without doing the doorway tradition. Then noticed the signage, staff and entry stand still available

I'm not sure what the problem is.

Govt tell to wear mask people wear mask, govt tell people don't wear mask, people don't wear mask!

No need to be condescending I don't think.

If people are respectful.
Those that choose to wear masks in some closed unventilated environments.
Not being too young and having someone in care I may depending.

I did get a few cold stares a few weeks back as only person in Supercheap Auto wearing a mask.

I'm not to bothered by those that are not wearing that have their own circumstances.

Hopefully Supermarkets are not going to make things difficult demanding you to smile mask free for their face ID cameras as they did at start of pandemic.

The problem is that the orders of Government are based on economic pressure but not based on science.

Visited the local post shop today. Both people behind the screens were wearing masks. I was wearing mask. Other two customers were not.

Visited a local eatery for lunch and no one wearing mask inside, except for me.

Then this comes to mind: https://www.chicagomag.com/chicago-magazine/october-2022/the-long-haul/

Long COVID is now the country’s third leading neurological disorder, the American Academy of Neurology declared in July.

The vaccines are certainly helping. Before they became available, about one-third of everyone infected with the virus came down with long COVID, Koralnik says. “There is brand-new data showing that if you’ve been double vaccinated and boosted, then the risk of developing long COVID, if you get COVID, is probably more like 16, 17 percent.” That’s the good news. The bad news is those 1-in-6 odds still translate to a lot of people: For every million vaccinated people who get COVID, 160,000 to 170,000 will develop long COVID.

“A lot of people think, Well, COVID is going away. But in fact, it’s not,” Koralnik says. “People still get COVID after the vaccination and double booster, and they can still get long COVID despite that.”

Let's hope the WHO is right on this.

Also - to the jerks who hassle you for still wearing a mask (I'm going to keep doing it on a bus/train/aeroplane, at least for now), try some of the lines in here: https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/lifestyle/2022/09/reddit-s-best-responses-to-you-know-you-don-t-have-to-wear-a-mask-anymore-right.html

I like the one from a tweet last year:

[Talking off mask] Oh, it's so good to be with like-minded people that aren't afraid of getting covid from me"
