Not that everyone will want to do it (and nobody can right now!) but I can highly recommend the Otago Rail Trail as a break.

We did it earlier this year. 4 days, all accommodation and meals sorted for us and luggage transferred every day.

We aren't fitness freaks and didn't train at all. Still managed it easily enough and enjoyed it very much.

It's a good mental antidote: great views, fresh air and the wind in your face.

My 70+ year old parents did it earlier this year and very much enjoyed it also.

We did it at the start of the year with my 9 and 12 year olds. I won't say I enjoyed it, but I am glad I did it. My advice is do it over 5 days. We did it over 2.5 days and despite the weather being OK (Windy) it was pretty hard going in many regards.

Hope everyone is settling and doing alright during this new lockdown? What strategies did you learn from the last lockdown that worked for you and you are using, or planning to use?

For me, having a 1 year old pup that is old enough to go out for walks does wonders for me. Just a short 30 minute walk on my lunch break to get some fresh air and away from the screen is helping. Having a better home office setup has helped, as has better plans to communicate with friends and organising skype/zoom catch ups.

Yes 2.5 would be hard unless you're a cycle junkie. In fact I know two people who did it in a single day!

I recommend e-bikes for it. It's not especially hilly, but you're supposed to be having fun!

I'm planning to get more exercise and fresh air this time even if it seems unnecessary or inconvenient at times.

I miss my extended family. I moved to NZ in the 90's and never developed a close friendship here. I'm married which helps a lot. Then I developed a chronic illness in 2013 and there went my main social outlet-work. Now I work a couple hours a week most weeks which helps a bit but no one there is friend.

I walk my dog an hour a day which also helps; it gets me out of my head. A lot of the time I really wish I had a friend with similar interests I could talk to like I used to in uni… since I have no family around.

I've pretty much resigned myself to it not happening. Most of the time I don't care.

I had a bad night last night. That raises concerns of a flare up of my condition looming just to pile on the anxiety.

Don't know what your condition is but for anxiety the best thing i have found is Lego, sounds dumb but go and order one of those big sets (once you can after lockdown).  Nothing takes your mind of everything like lego does.  Only issue is almost finishing a part of it and you did not following the blueprint correctly :(

A similar thing I learned from (of all people) Ozzy Osbourne is to do colouring in.

I do really complex colouring in on my iPad with my Apple Pencil, but paper and colouring pencils would work as well if not better.

The thing I like about the iPad version is I can zoom in and do the fine bits more easily as I am a bit clumsy.

I'm struggling with having everyone home. I work at home most of the time and am fairly used to doing my own thing for at least a couple of days a week when I am not forced into the office. Now I am sharing my workspace and time and also my downtime with my wife and two teenagers and I find myself getting quite short with them. Not their fault, but they obviously disrupt my "normal routine" and that clearly bothers me more than I thought it would.

I love doing Lego and we have quite a bit here. My wife has been doing the Harry Potter series and I have recently done the Apollo 11 Moon Lander. I want to get the ISS and the new 2021 Space Shuttle. I have grabbed one of our 1000 piece WASGIJ jigsaw puzzles to do

Toyco.co.nz are shipping essential items. Interestingly, some Lego sets are considered as essential items. The Space Shuttle is one of those sets

If you like the idea of Coloring In, on the Microsoft Store, there is a free app called "Coloring Book: Drawing for Adults and Kids".

I think from looking at it, it's better suited to a Surface device, rather than a PC.
