Geektastic: NZ Tourism has received a modest $10 million budget increase to assist with campaigns to reduce the impact.
Did you forget the rest of your post? Is it modest? Ok, wasn't aware of that. If it runs out all campaigns will stop I guess...

It's an extra $10m for Tourism NZ to temporarily increase marketing of New Zealand as a destination to people in countries other than China - particularly Australia – which is NZ's largest overall market, long haul from the UK, which has been suffering for a while now, also the US and other parts of Asia such as Japan.
Tourism NZ's recent focus had been on China with predictions of a 10% yearly increase in Chinese tourism to NZ and China becoming as large a market as Australia by 2025..

how do you know he wasnt a 2 pack a day smoker.
Common sense is not as common as you think.
Here's some interesting suppositions from the WHO
"“More than 80% of patients have mild disease and will recover, 14% have severe disease including pneumonia and shortness of breath, 5% have critical disease including respiratory failure, septic shock and multi-organ failure, and 2% of cases are fatal,” Tedros said in Geneva. “The risk of death increases the older you are.”
Not what you would call comforting to those stuck on cruise boats where the average age is significantly higher than the population as a whole,

Here's some case data from Chinese CDC advising WHO. It's a week old, so using collated data from the ~44,000 cases then:
The ratio of male:female deaths, you could assume is related to smoking rates, ~>60% of males smoke, few females smoke.
The case fatality rate over time does not show what it superficially may appear to show. The disease may take many weeks to kill after infection - but also probably many undiagnosed cases in the early stages may have meant the numbers have a bias to include relatively more serious cases. It's still a guessing game.
That data could be suggesting that you look for an indication of the real mortality rate by monitoring case outcomes a month after onset of symptoms. Case fatality rate and mortality rate are not the same thing.
kingdragonfly: Regarding NZ Post, broadly it's an unusually bad sign when force majeure comes into effect.
You're almost never going to see a force majeure clause in a lease. Quite the opposite: it's usually a "hell or high water" clause for us mere commonfolk.
Shippers declared one for cargo heading to and from Wellington after the Kaikoura Earthquake
Its essentially when you are un able to fulfil contractual obligations due to an event that is unforeseeable/predictable or controllable by one party
The Christchurch Chinese Consulate is dramatically quit this week!
Probably less than 10% of "normal" visitors for Visas!
Also since last week I have yet to see anyone wearing a mask!
2 weeks ago almost every visitor was wearing one!

Yeah. all the restaurants are quiet too, most of the Chinese wont go. Despite the outbreak in Japan, and the many that are part of that outbreak but don't know it yet, no travel restrictions.
There's always one as*hole:
"SEA-TAC AIRPORT, Wash. -- An Oregon comedian who had been stranded on a Holland America cruise ship in Cambodia due to COVID-19 virus concerns managed to get a flight back home by breaking quarantine in a hotel where ship's passengers were being held pending test results.
Frank King arrived at Sea-Tac Airport Monday afternoon on his way home to Eugene. He was a performer on the M/S Westerdam when their two-week cruise turned into quite the saga after a former passenger tested positive for the virus."
Yep. My mate has to quarantine as his gf is returning, but he tells me its pointless, as others wont self quarantine so why bother.
