Oblivian:

Batman:

"there were still 367 people that had been through managed isolation who were unable to be contacted by health authorities. He made a fresh appeal for anyone in that group to phone Healthline."

do you know what that means?

That a percentage of self righteous gits think it's funny to give false details to authorities cause the world is surely only against them and going to do nothing but bad with their details

Anyone that has given false details to immigration/customs should have there passports revoked and face charges unless a compelling reason can be given as to why. The others should perhaps have there passports flagged for a glove inspection 👌👈 next time they pass through.

This is assuming they have the passport details and this isn't just another fail :)

I'm not a complete idiot, I still have some parts missing.

kingdragonfly: I'm not telling anyone reading this forum anything new.

No vaccine has ever been approved for use against previous forms of coronavirus.

"Human" needs to be added.  There are coronavirus vaccines for livestock/pets.

Also needs to be realised that the coronaviruses causing 15% or so of the "common cold" aren't high priority as it's not a serious disease, and the two coronaviruses that have been serious (SARS/MERS) were eradicated - so vaccine development was shelved. (You can't complete phase III trails without testing efficacy, you can't test efficacy without monitoring "real" immune response in subjects, and you ethically can't deliberately infect thousands of people with a deadly disease to test efficacy).

C-19 is different, there are plenty of places where the disease is rampant, chance of being exposed is high, double-blind trials can be carried out ethically - that's under way now, results could be much sooner than pessimistic estimates.

Plus there are (IIRC) more than 100 candidate vaccines now - there''s a huge global effort to get there ASAP.

A problem found with hotspot lockdown in Aus:

Residents from Melbourne's 10 coronavirus hotspots have attempted to change the address on their driver’s licence to get around restrictions as they enter strict lockdown conditions for a second time.

VicRoads has moved to stop a significant surge in licence amendments as people rushed to change their addresses in the hopes of getting through police checkpoints.

Thats shows how the best laid plans will fall foul of human nature, whether that be a mistake or this type of flouting. Humans will ensure there is always a risk

Trust in action , something a Professor in Experimental Economics could add to their reading list.

Though taking a quick listen to a particular radio network to measure community attitudes there.
We have have a lot of cheerleaders for the 'no need to do anything' crowd with powerful platforms to get the message out, and you add social media.
So yes you can trust these people will not co-operate with any measures given a choice.

So our at least 367 , from sample of a few thousand.

Again people trying to find loopholes. Pretty disgusting IMO and shows why some people can't be trusted, and it is impossible to know which people can't be trusted.

I see they are again looking opening up compassionate leave from quarantine early, despite the media reporting abuse of it. IMO everyone should just do their quarantine time, and treat everyone the same, otherwise it increases the risk.We have technology to allow people to connect, and things like funerals can be delayed. Yes it maybe hard for some, but the potential cost is other peoples lives.

I will see your problem and raise you this one,

Sounds like the hotels could have been doubling as sets for "Big brother"

"The outlet also claims some guards were sleeping with guests, they shook hands and shared lifts and allowed guests to move between rooms to play cards."

And more stupidity gives NT their first case in almost three months! (interstate case, but now there is a couple of flights to deal with)

https://7news.com.au/travel/coronavirus/northern-territory-records-first-coronavirus-case-in-three-months-c-1139267

"The person is a Darwin resident in their 30s who came back to Australia from overseas, Health Minster Natasha Fyles said on Thursday.

The person completed two weeks of quarantine in Melbourne before flying Melbourne-Brisbane, Brisbane-Darwin and arriving in the NT capital on Monday.

But before travelling to Darwin the person stayed with family in one of the hot spots for the virus in Melbourne for a couple of days.

.. They arrived in Darwin on Monday starting to feel unwell and were tested and those results came through last night, .."

I'm not sure about the stupidity bit but this shows that it is quite prevalent in the community in Melb

I am more optimistic for a Vaccine , with over 140 candidates, and the resource being poured into this.
There appears to be a variation in approaches, so I expect this helps chances.

Even a SARS Vaccine effort that was literally put on ice when SARS burned out.
https://www.jsonline.com/story/news/2020/05/13/frozen-years-potential-sars-vaccine-tested-coronavirus-cryogene-houston-baylor-college-medicine/3110750001/

This was tested in lab against SARS-COV2 analog , and showed activity.
SARS-COV2 is about 20% different in genetic makeup from SARS, so suggests that characteristics these aim at don't change much.

Above is not one of USA's fast tracked vaccines .

Fauci's most recent statement, suggests USA will know if the other fast tracked vaccines will work in 6 months or so.
""
“There is no guarantee and anyone that's been involved in vaccinology will tell you that we will have a safe and effective vaccine, but we are optimistic that we will at least know the extent of efficacy sometime in the winter and early part of next year,”
""

Then there are reports like this that SARS-COV2 is relatively stable, a characteristic SARS .
https://www.the-scientist.com/news-opinion/relatively-stable-sars-cov-2-genome-is-good-news-for-a-vaccine-67319

Longevity of Immunity , will it be enough ?, well there is encouraging information.
This example SARS study, indicates a few years immunity is possible.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2851497/

""
Our results provide strong evidence that SARS-CoV antibodies are reduced >3 years after the symptom onset. Because antibodies play an important role in protective immunity against SARS-CoV (15), the findings from this study will have important implications with regard to assessing risk for reinfection among previously exposed populations (e.g., hospital staff) and evaluating the duration of antibody-mediated immunity that any candidate vaccine could provide.
""

As time goes on we will get more info on SARS-COV-2 ,
as large populations of infected and recovered are studied as we get more months of data.

Then there are the multitude of synthetic antibody approaches being worked on as well, though that's an immediate treatment , not long lasting.

Edit for cut and paste error .

That Australia cases is concerning based on protocols they are following. It says they tested positive while in quarantine, but was released on day 14 after after 'displaying no persistent symptoms '. I hope that isn't the case here, and we aren't releasing positive people after 14 days. My understanding is people can be sick withe the virus for weeks, even up to 6 weeks.I wonder how NZs protocols compare.

I don't think you can say it is prevalent in the community. Yes it is in the community, they are finding 70 cases a day so I reckon we are talking about a maybe 500-1000 cases in a city of 5,000,000 at the moment.

Far more likely he caught it in quarantine (or perhaps overseas).

Mind you if they don't get on top it different story...

Historically, AUS has over 10% CT. Most of the current VIC cases are CT. They did well with less lockdown than us, but as we see, if you have just 10% CT you can never really eradicate it. You can only manage it. And when they then go to even looser lockdown, hosts are aplenty.
